What To Do At The First Sign Of A Cold

January 21, 2016 22 Comments

Tracking PixelThis week seems to be health week here at Her Heartland Soul! We started off talking about how to fight a sore throat, then discussed how your cat can help your broken bones heal faster.

what to do at the first sign of a cold her heartland soul

Today we’re wrapping up the week’s theme discussing colds. Specifically, what to do at the first sign of a cold that can help shorten your cold and reduce its symptoms. This post is written in partnership with Zicam® Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs.

Zicam® Nasal Swabs Her Heartland Soul

When I first heard that there was a product that is clinically proven to shorten colds when taken at the first sign I was like, sign me up!

How many times have you sneezed or felt a little off and knew you were on the precipice of getting sick? And knew that aside from getting more rest and increasing your fluid intake there really wasn’t anything you could do to try to fight off the inevitable? If there was something you knew you could take to help shorten your cold, would you?

Zicam® Nasal Swabs Her Heartland Soul

Zicam® recently reformulated their Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs with homeopathic, plant-derived active ingredients. The swabs are clinically proven to shorten colds and reduce symptom severity by 45% halfway through your cold when taken at the first sign of cold symptoms. Their nasal swabs are also loaded with natural soothers like cooling menthol and eucalyptus (you guys know I love eucalyptus!) for a gentle application and soothing relief when you’re sneezing and dealing with a runny nose.

Zicam® Nasal Swabs Her Heartland Soul

Using Zicam® Nasal Swabs is a breeze. Just snap open the tube and you’re good to go. It’s important to note that these work when they’re continually taken while fighting off a cold so it’s not a one and done kind of deal.

If there’s something I can do to fight off an imminent cold, I’m going to do it. I’m glad to have these nasal swabs in my medicine cabinet so I can be prepared when I start to feel under the weather.

Questions of the Day: Can you tell when you’re starting to come down with a cold? Have you used Zicam® before? Does this sound like a product you would want in your medicine cabinet?

This is really interesting actually! I had never heard of these until now. We usually take the (uhg nasty) zinc chewables and double up on vitamins, etc… So I am really glad that I clicked over! Thanks for the info 🙂

I will do just about anything to stop a cold when I see the first few signs. But this, I’m not so sure about. Seems uncomfortable.

It’s essentially just quickly rubbing a q-tip around the inside of your nose. It wasn’t a big deal to me at all, but I understand that everyone can have different sensitivities. I’m super squeamish with eye stuff but can always swab my mouth, nose, and ears with no problems.

I ALWAYS get that “feeling” without any symptoms that, uh oh, a cold is coming on. This would be perfect for those times!

At the first sign of a cold I Grab as much garlic, Lemon and Honey as I can and create my cold mix. I crush and blend these together and Hold my nose and gulp it down. Its super hot. Jalapenos have nothing on this mixture. BUT it cures colds lie no other. As in instant relief and obliteration.

Then I chew some fennel seeds to get rid of the garlicky breath and the I can take my lemon and honey and ginger drink. Great for colds. Two days later I don’t even know what a cold is….Its amazingly simple, a home remedy since I was little!
while I m sure the suggested treatment works too…I will keep to this one 🙂

I would do anything to shorten colds! I hate being sick, and I hate knowing I am going to be but can’t do anything about it. Great information, and I’m sure I will be the first to use it as soon as thy start selling it in Europe.

Zicam has never worked for me. Not sure why. Luckily I don’t get sick often, and when I do I head straight to bed. Works like a charm.

I’ve heard of this, but was skeptical. Now that you’ve written this post on it, I think I’ll look into this next time I come down with a cold. Anything to reduce it! Thanks for the review.

Normally can tell when a cold is about to hit, but don’t really use medication, normally it is lots of water and bed. Guess I am a bit old school like that. If it was in the medicine cabinet, I prob would give it a go tho.
