Last Friday I packed up my bags and headed off to Los Angeles for the weekend. I previously recapped my Eat Sea Retreat experience (cliffnotes: it was amazing!). Today I’m sharing all about where we stayed.
Terranea Resort is a true oasis. Located just outside Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes, it’s a short drive from the hustle and bustle of the city while offering you an island-like refuge. Total calm, total luxury, and total relaxation.

From LAX it takes about 30 minutes to reach Terranea. Thankfully I wasn’t flying in during rush hour as I’ve heard that can take much longer.
It felt wonderful to be greeted by views like this after a long morning of travel. The hotel is located on the side of a cliff so as you drive in you’re greeted by panoramic views, getting closer and closer to the ocean and you go deeper into the property.
You’re greeted with a glass of champagne at check-in and assisted by the nicest people. The staff at Terranea are incredible, willing to go above and beyond for their guests. And the One Hope Brut they greet you with is beyond fabulous.
For Eat Sea Retreat we all shared two villas. It feels weird to say share since my bedroom and bathroom were essentially their own detached suite. All our separate suites were joined by a gorgeous kitchen, living room, two outdoor areas, and a fireplace and hot tub. It was unreal.
I love the color scheme of my room and seriously wanted to take that bed back with me to Omaha. I had the best sleep in it.
The property grounds are beyond stunning. There’s multiple oceanfront hiking trails, a secluded beach, spacious pools (including an adults-only one!), and so much to explore and do. There’s daily exercise classes, daily hikes, and a nightly sunset tradition.
The food is beyond incredible. I somehow managed to forget to take photos at most of our meals but the cuisine at Terranea is so fresh, and so expertly prepared. It’s delicious. It’s an amazing experience to be dining oceanside with good company and good food. Here is a list of all the restaurant offerings at Terrenea. I’ve been to the mar’sel, Nelson’s, and the Spa Cafe and recommend them all.
Speaking of the spa…. 😉 If you find yourself staying at Terranea you absolutely must visit the spa. It is pure bliss. There’s oceanfront lounging, another pool, a fitness center, a restaurant, and a host of meditation and relaxation rooms. I had my first experience with a steam room and have to say, it’s so much more my thing than a sauna!
The afternoon I spent at the spa was fabulous. I got a massage, ate guacamole, saw multiple whales and dolphins swim right in front me, and achieved total zen. It was one of my favorite parts of my trip and so good for my soul.
My time at Terranea was a total treat. I couldn’t recommend a resort more highly. The location is perfect, the staff are exceptional, and the amenities take luxury to a new level. For me, it’s not a question of if but when I’ll be back to visit Terranea. It’s my ideal vacation.
Questions of the Day: Have you been to Terranea? What do you look for in a vacation destination? Are you a fan of getting massages on vacation?

This looks like a dream! I was in LA last year and we were looking at places to stay and this was one of our options! We ended up staying in the heart of LA, but I think next time I would go for something a little more relaxing.
