I woke up lazy this morning. You know how some days you wake up ready to tackle the world and others you just want to enjoy the contentment of a cozy bed and nowhere to be for a few hours? Today was definitely the latter for me.
I’d like to say it was because I wanted to lounge around and rest but it probably had more to do with my carb-fest around midnight last night. I had homework due this morning and left it til the last minute (as per usual). I was tired and would have liked to have gone to bed but since I needed to finish my work I had to stay awake. To work I needed energy, and energy at midnight comes in the form of food. Two handfuls of nacho chips and a bowl of cereal later I got my work done (and a 100% on the assignment!) but went to bed feeling bad about my late night snacking choices and woke up in the morning with a carb-coma. Its so hard to resist carbs when the urge strikes, but ten minutes after eating those salty nacho chips I regret it and feel like crap. I think when my body gets those cravings (which always happen late at night) its telling me it doesn’t have the energy to keep me up at that hour so I should probably go to bed! Its a bad habit I’m definitely working on because I don’t want it to hinder my fitness goals.
I wonder what their excuse is for today’s late-morning lazy cuddle fest? ;p
I knew if I wanted to get myself out of my carb slump for the day I was going to have to make myself sweat. There is nothing like a good workout to rejuvenate your body and mind and set you on a good track for the day. I’m a big workout DVD fan. I don’t really enjoy outdoor workouts and while the gym is great it can be hard to motivate myself to get out the door to get there. With workout DVD’s I have no excuse, I’m already there, all I have to do is press play. I think the most important thing is finding what works for you and then doing it!
This morning I worked out to the 10 Minute Solution Fat Blasting Dance Mix with Jennifer Galardi. I love the 10 Minute Solution series because it breaks down a fifty minute workout into 10 minute sections. If you’re pressed for time you can do as many as you can fit into your schedule for the day or break them up over the course of the day. I always try and do all of the segments because otherwise I feel like its a less than total workout, but when all of the five sections are done in conjunction you really feel it.
I bought this one after reading the great reviews on Amazon talking about how it really gets your heart rate up and keeps it up throughout the duration of the DVD. I love it because Jennifer is so motivational and while I’m huffing and puffing and sweating like crazy while I’m doing it I end the workout feeling so good.
Bailey watching from the couch wondering what the heck I’m doing. She only dances for treats.
After my workout I felt awake, alert, and hungry! I made my favorite breakfast burrito and it was exactly what my belly needed.
Andy smelled something good!
Andy has extremely long legs for his little body. He uses them to jump and run really fast and get into all sorts of trouble. Today he used them to climb up on a super sweaty, still-in-workout-clothes me to see what I was eating. Unfortunately for him I was hungry and didn’t share.
After breakfast it was time to head to school. I had leadership and consumer behavior classes today and both were a lot of fun. When I came home I was feeling hungry again, but just for one thing!
‘
Diane’s pasta salad! A big bowl of this for lunch and I was ready to tackle some homework and then enjoy the beautiful weather for a little bit.
I decided to take my puppies on a walk so they could soak up some sunshine. I was getting them into their harnesses when my dad took this picture. (First Fashion Page post is up!)
Andy and Bailey used to be walked on separate leashes until my parents discovered the double dog leash. Bailey walks in a straight line on walks while Andy ping pongs back and forth from the grass to the sidewalk to the tree to the little kid walking past with the big ice cream cone he wants so badly. It used to be a struggle to keep them from getting tangled and to keep Andy focused on the walk. With the double dog leash Andy has to walk in a straight line because he’s clipped to Bailey. And she’s a good ten pounds heavier than him. ;p
We took a few pit stops so they could smell the grass explore a little.
I love walking my puppies because I get to explore my neighborhood and always discover more than I would if I were driving past in my car. I found these super cute bunnies hiding among the greenery in someone’s yard! How adorable are they?
I also fell in love with this tree. Andy and Bailey fell in love with the flowers below it which they sniffed and then tried to roll on. I decided it was time to head home at that point. ;p By then I was feeling ready for dinner so I made myself one of my favorite sandwiches:
Peanut butter sandwiches with half a banana and four strawberries cut up on top. It is so yummy and I love how the peanut butter and fruit tastes together.
I was still a little hungry after my sandwich so I decided to have one of my favorite snacks. Its a few scoops of non-fat plain yogurt with a heaping handful of blueberries, walnuts, and a drizzle (or two) of honey over all of it. It tastes so good and really fills me up!
And now its time for me to talk to a very special someone and maybe catch up on an episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey. Its such a guilty pleasure! ;p
