Happy Friday! Here’s to another beautiful summer weekend to look forward to! I hope you enjoy it and get to rest, relax, and have a lot of fun! In the spirit of Friday, here’s what I’m loving this week:
1. It’s College World Series week in Omaha! Josh and I have made a few trips to the free outdoor beer gardens downtown and have really been enjoying all the excitement this event brings to the city. We had tickets to see Monday night’s Florida vs. Virginia game and had been looking forward to it for a while. The game was delayed two hours on Monday because of rain the night before (meaning we didn’t get home until after midnight), but we had so much fun. There’s something about a live game with cheering crowds that can’t be beat. I love that the College World Series is in Omaha and look forward to making this an annual tradition.
2. This song. So much yes. It has been on repeat all week for me. If you are in need of a good pump up song look no further. And if you need another reason to love Taylor Swift, check out what she did for Rachel Platten.
3. I am loving summertime grilling! I got together with Jordan and Hannah this week after work for some turkey burgers, wine, and girl talk. Is there anything better? Viva Diva sent me their pineapple and coconut flavored moscato to try and I was so excited to share it with the girls. I’m not going to lie, I love sweet wines, but I was nervous that the mixture of pineapple and coconut would make it too sweet for even me. It turns out I was worried for nothing. This moscato was delicious and went down like juice!
4. Have you heard the story of the little boy who lost his stuffed animal at the Tampa Bay Airport? It’s such a sweet story and made me feel all the feels.
5. I love having my nails done, but hate the fact that when I do them myself they start chipping after a few days. And as much as I love professional pedicures and manicures, I’m way too cheap to go to them done on the regular. I was more than a little bummed earlier this week when my professional pedicure started chipping after just a few days. It felt like I had burned $30. After sadly removing all the polish from my toes I decided to repaint them myself and try out the new Sally Hansen Miracle Gel products I have been hearing so much about.
If you’ve never had gel nails before, it’s like getting your nails painted like you regularly would at a salon but putting them under a UV lamp in between each coat. By the time the last coat is applied your nails are rock hard and you don’t have to worry about them smudging or chipping at all. It’s more expensive than a regular polish treatment, so I’ve only had it done for my wedding. While I absolutely loved the results, a) I’m cheap, and b) I’ve read some bad things about how high those UV lamps are turned up for gel nails and that over time you could be exposing yourself to way too much ultraviolet light from them. As a cheap pale person with a family history of skin cancer, I figured gels were a one and done experience for my wedding.
When I found out about the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel products I was instantly intrigued. They don’t set under a UV lamp, but rather just from the natural sunlight around you. You paint your nails a color and then set it with a special top coat. You don’t have to expose yourself to any extra UVs and you get all the benefits of gel nails? Sign me up! I painted my toes Rum Punch and am as pleased as punch with how they turned out! The color is gorgeous and they look like I had them professionally done! It has been a week and there have been no smudges or chips to speak of. Yay for pretty nails! I’m so glad I finally found a polish that works for me!
Questions of the Day: What are you loving this Friday? Are you a fan of sweet wines? Do you tend to paint your nails, leave them alone, or get them done at a salon?
P.S. See you tomorrow for a new Saturday Shares!
Andrea @ The Pineapple Cake says
How sweet was that story of the little boy and his lost tiger?!
I loved that his parents told him the tiger was on an adventure and when he picked him up he really had been!
I always let someone else do my nails… I don’t have the patience for waiting for them to day so I always get the gel done by a professional — and I am not coordinated enough to do them on my own. 🙂
Enjoy your weekend.
Can’t wait to read about it on Monday.
Erin says
I thought that lost tiger story was the sweetest! I love that the airport took the time to do something so special for a little boy!
And thanks Andrea! I hope you are having the best weekend!
Stephanie @ My Freckled Life says
Love that Sally Hansen polish! It seriously lasts like a gel manicure, but for a fraction of the cost! Plus all the colors are super bright and perfect for summer!
Erin says
Yes! I’m obsessed and wondering how I just found out about the nail polish now! haha
Linz @ Itz Linz says
i get gel polish changes (not manicures) at the salon because they’re just $20 and last 2-3 weeks. though in between each time, i try and paint my nails myself a time or two which lasts… a few days haha i have heard great things about that sally hansen gel polishes though!
Erin says
The nail polish is seriously amazing!! Ohh that’s a smart idea and great way to save money at the salon!
Gretchen | Gretchruns says
I’ll have to try that polish! I tried one similar from Revlon and it really did stay on a while. The college world series sounds fun, especially the beer gardens!! Have fun!
Erin says
Thanks Gretchen! The nail polish is seriously amazing! I hope you’re having an awesome weekend!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
I had never heard of her before, but love T-swift and that song is awesome! Thanks for the introduction 🙂
Erin says
Absolutely girl! I’m obsessed with that song! And now I have another reason to love Taylor Swift!
Beks says
Thanks for posting that song. I’ve been hearing it almost daily on Q98.5 and I had no idea who sang it. Now I can buy it! Love it!
Erin says
I’m obsessed with that song! I’ve been playing it all weekend!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
We definitely still need to have a nail painting party!!!
Erin says
Yes we do!!

I’m just simply loving that it IS Friday! I like my job, but weekends with no responsibilities are so much better : ) I actually am not a big wine drinker… which is very sad. But I do like tart wines a bit more than sweet ones. I can only get my nails done at a salon. If I try to do them myself, I end up with an absolute mess and it looks like a toddler painted them. Haha.
Erin says
Yes! I have an awesome job, but let’s be real, weekends are WAY better! haha I hope you’re having a great one!
Taylor says
Girl, HOW do you find all of these sponsors to send you free wine?! Sounds like a dream! Pineapple and coconut are two of my favorite flavors!

So happy to see Tampa in the news for something good for once! That is such a sweet story!
Erin says
I thought it was the cutest story! Getting his stuffed animal back must have made that little boy’s day!
Heather@hungryforbalance says
I love getting my nails done, but they always chip like a minute later. I never paint them at home for the same reason! Having chipped nail polish drives me bonkers. I will have to check the miracle gel polish out!
Erin says
It is seriously great stuff! I’m amazed at how well it’s lasting on my nails!
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
Pineapple and coconut wine? Send some my way! ; )
Erin says
Oh man it was so good!!!
Lauren says
I just got another gel manicure. I do it a few times a year because it’s the only thing that keeps my nails looking nice for 2+ weeks especially since my job is hands on. I have the purple Sally Hansen gel that I’m putting on my toes this weekend! My mom has lots of colors and loves it.
Erin says
How did your at home pedicure go?
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut says
Essie has a top coat that is supposed to be like the gel nail stuff (you can tell I know what I’m talking about) but it worked really well. It lasted at least a week while I was working at the cafe and usually by day 1 at the cafe I have chips so I was pretty impressed!
I think we might be missing the College World Series this year, but definitely going next year! I haven’t even been to the new stadium…so crazy! We move in 3 days though!! EEp!
Erin says
Ahhh so exciting you’ll be here so soon!!
Shannyn @ Frugal Beautiful says
I hear you on being too cheap to want to get your nails done all the time! I’m the same way. I love the colors the polish comes in, though! Very pretty.
Erin says
Thanks Shannyn! I’m in love with the formula of these nail polishes! They really work and stay on!
