Color Me Rad 5k Recap

April 28, 2014 29 Comments

Josh and I ran our first color race this past Saturday!

The Color Me Rad 5k was at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs. It was a huge race with thousands of people. I was so excited to finally get to do a color run. And this race did it big. My Zumba instructor Jordan was there revving up the crowd and getting everyone moving before the race started. We got sunglasses, temporary tattoos, and really cute race tees.

I loved that there were other Omaha bloggers rocking the race. From left to right. Joanna, me, Kim, and Liz. When you put bloggers together there’s bound to be some photos. 🙂

Our before and after shots. We got absolutely covered in color. Color Me Rad made this feel like one big party. You get your first dose of color at the start line, then run through five different color stations along the course. The color stations had music blasting, dancing volunteers, and tons and tons of color. At the finish line you get handed a color packet to have your own color party.

Joanna and I had fun hurling color at each other. We met up with our usual running buddies Jeff and Joanna. They were smart and did things like put their phones in Ziplock bags and bring beach towels for their car seats. We did not and I now have an orange stained phone case and car seats with random streaks of color on them. ;p

The course was flat and speedy and the weather was perfect. We don’t think it was a full 5k, but I finished in 30 minutes so I’m taking it! haha We didn’t stay for any of the after party because Josh’s knee started hurting after the race. The rest did him good and he’s feeling much better now but is still being safe and going to a Doctor this week to get it checked out. I’m thinking some KT tape might be in his future.

Question of the Day: Have you run a color run before? I’m kind of hooked now. 🙂

They had a color run at the half marathon I did last weekend. It was pretty short and it looked like everyone was having a great time. I loved seeing all the runners around the area afterwards, still decorated in their colors!

I haven’t done a color run yet though I have done a mud run which was awesome. My bf just did a color run and really liked it. Maybe I’ll try one this summer!

You totally should Patty! My husband really wants to do a mud run. I’ll be a spectator for that race. I’m not coordinated enough and would probably trip and fall and break something.

    Erin,
This looks like is was soooo much fun! I love the shorter races (e.g. 5K, 10K, etc.) I’m not quite ready to do a marathon so I stay with the smaller races for now. But again, it looks like you really enjoyed yourself, you go girl!
