A year of marriage in photos (giveaway!)

July 23, 2014 36 Comments

Disclaimer: I was offered a free photo session with Lady Grey Photography in exchange for this blog post.

My husband and I hired Kitty to take our Christmas photo last year and I booked a headshot session with her for a few weeks from now. She is incredibly talented, incredibly affordable, and does phenomenal work. She’s a lawyer by day and a natural-light photographer by night (and weekends!). She believes high quality photos should be something every family can afford and enjoy. We also consider her a friend. (You may remember the guest post she did on my blog when I was in Hawaii.) I could not recommend another Omaha photographer more fully. I hope you enjoy her work.

They say time passes quickly when you’re having fun. Maybe that’s why this year feels like it has gone by in the blink of an eye. I have never had more fun than I’m having right now.

I was never in a rush to get married. I always said I’d rather be alone than in a bad relationship. But ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of finding my Prince Charming.

You may think that sounds stupid, or naive, and I get it. But as a hopeless romantic, my dream was to find my person to share life with, to go on adventures with, and to grow old with.

Growing up, I was different than my friends. I seem to have a knack for becoming friends with people that are as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. While guys showered them with attention, I was left to feel different, alone, and unwanted.

College led me to make some bad relationship decisions. Guys seemed to be more about validation than about a connection. But I didn’t want to date just to date. I wanted more.

I became so worried about being normal, about being like everyone else, and about fitting in. I thought I was going to end up a lonely cat lady, reading self-help books in my mid-thirties about how all the good one’s aren’t taken (You can feel free to call me crazy now).

When I met Josh I learned a very valuable lesson. Your story doesn’t have to be like anyone else’s. You don’t have to date a ton of guys. When you find the right guy, it only takes one.

One guy can make your whole world. He can love you unconditionally. He can be your best friend. He can make you believe in true love.

I’m so lucky to have found my guy. And for our wonderful first year of marriage. I’m excited for many, many more.

If you live in Omaha and would like to document a special milestone in your life, Kitty is offering a free 30-minute photo session to a lucky reader. Or if you’d rather be behind the lens instead of in front of the camera, she’s offering a free Photography 101 class. The winner must be able to book their photo shoot/photo class during the month of August.

So precious Erin! I also recently celebrated my first anniversary. My husband brings the thrill to my every day life adventures.Your story warms my heart & I would love to read more about your adventures together. 🙂

Ironically, the milestone I would love to capture is partially mine but completely my dearest & oldest friend’s. She & I have been friends since the age of 3 & she is about to have her first baby this December. They are living with family, saving for a house of their own, so I offered to take photos myself (a new photographer). I would love to gift her with this professional session or better skills (the class). She is the closest thing to a sister that I have ever had, and I plan to be a part of her and her daughter’s life as long as she’ll let me.

This is a touching story to pair with a giveaway. Keep it up girl!

I just cannot… You make me teary eyed. I want the love that you and your hubby have. I am going through a weird relationship period right now… Ugh, so now I am sad, but I am also so very happy – because you inspire me and do in fact give me hope!
