One of the great things my school did this year was make the gym free and open to all students. Aside from an awesome workout center we were also given access to free fitness classes held all around campus. For the last few months I’ve been going to the weekly Tuesday and Thursday Zumba classes offered at my school. Before going to these classes I had only done Zumba a handful of times here and there at random places. I thought it was fun but I didn’t realize how amazing it could be. I love Zumba for many reasons, and I thought it would be fun to make a post sharing why.
1. I love shaking it to good music. Seriously, who wouldn’t have a blast dancing to this? And even though it’s fun, you’re breaking a sweat and burning some calories!
2. I love how accepting my Zumba class is. The class is always packed with like twenty five people and everyone is a different age, shape, and size. Half the class is college students and half the class is college staff so we have lots of 20-somethings and lots of 40-year olds. There is a girl in there with a disability, and there is a woman in there going through chemo. Some girls can really dance, others not so much. We’re not there to judge, we’re there to burn some calories and dance our butts off. I love how encouraging and supportive everyone is. Zumba has become a place I really look forward to going to every week.
3. I love all the colorful clothes you’re encouraged to wear. I don’t have any official Zumba gear but I love rocking bright outfits. It just makes me feel happy.
4. I love feeling like I stepped out of a Fresh Prince music video in these shoes. These Reebok Dance Ur Leads are seriously the best Zumba shoes ever. They’re perfect for stomping and shaking and jumping all around. Every time I wear them I get so many compliments.
5. I love how you’re encouraged to show your emotions while you dance. If you’re feeling the music and having a good time, shout and clap your hands. We have one guy that beat boxes to the music on some of the songs. When the song asks you a question, you’re supposed to yell and answer back. Here’s a song my class has a lot of fun with:
Zumba is so much fun and a workout class I definitely recommend you try out if you’re looking for a new class to join. The dances are easy to pick up on once you get the basic Zumba moves down and it is impossible to leave without a smile. I’m so glad I got up the courage to try it out. Zumba is going to be a part of my workout routine for a long time.

I like zumba. I always feel like a dork doing it though because i’m so not coordinated. I remember this one time Eric and I went to the gym together and I did zumba and he was doing ‘strong’ man stuff and afterwards he was like I watched you the whole time.. I was so embarrassed because I knew I looked like an idiot haha. He said it was entertaining at least.
