Weekend Snapshots 11.10

November 10, 2014 16 Comments

Happy Monday! Our apartment feels a lot quieter without Josh’s parents here. We did so much this past week and had so much fun. I tried to snap some photos to document it all but if you noticed I was a bit quieter on social media than usual. I was focusing on really living in the moment and enjoying time with family. There were some days where I didn’t take out my camera once. The things I did manage to document pretty consistently was the food. You know me. 😉 So while I don’t have a lot of pictures of the four of us together, or all the fun stuff we did, I have a whole lot of food pictures to share!

Read It and Eat!Read It and Eat Library Conference Erin Fairchild Her Heartland Soul

Last weekend was the Read it and Eat! conference at the Omaha Public Library.  Josh and I went with his parents last year and were so looking forward to coming back for a second year. It was a day full of food with a particular focus on baked goods. And everything was free! I learned so much from the presenters, ate a ton of good food, and am now committed to trying to bake a pie from scratch. Oh, and Josh won a birthday cake! It was strawberry cake with a vanilla bean frosting. SO good.

Laos Thai Restaurant Her Heartland Soul Erin Fairchild

Dinner from Laos Thai in South O. This is the best Thai food I’ve had in Omaha. The flavors in their food are unreal.

Marks Dundee Omaha Erin Fairchild Her Heartland Soul

Josh’s 30th (!!) birthday dinner at Marks. Their mac and cheese is incredible.

Salt 88 Omaha Erin Fairchild Her Heartland SoulDinner at Salt 88. This is a restaurant Josh and I have been meaning to try for a while. I loved that we got to experience it for the first time with Josh’s parents. Their food is yummy and every meal ends with free cotton candy!

Dixie Quicks Council Bluffs Omaha Her Heartland Soul Erin Fairchild

The most amazing biscuit, eggs, and tomato butter sauce breakfast from Dixie Quicks.

Old Market Omaha Carriage Ride Erin Fairchild Her Heartland Soul

A horse and carriage ride around Old Market. I’ve always seen these tours around but never got to try one for myself before. It was such a beautiful night and a special experience.

Josh Zoo Prairie Dogs Erin Fairchild Her Heartland Soul

Josh made friends with a friendly prairie dog at the Omaha Zoo. I wanted to take him home with us.

Erin Fairchild Josh Zoo Selfie Her Heartland Soul

Selfie in the jungle exhibit. There was a three story waterfall! And a cave full of bats. I’m trying to erase the latter from my memory.

Pinterest #blogOmaha Omaha Bloggers Erin Fairchild Her Heartland Soul

The lovely Kim gave a presentation on Pinterest to Omaha Bloggers. It was great getting to catch up with everyone and learn more about what I need to do to get my Pinterest whipped into shape. That’s a goal for next weekend, once I’ve caught up on some sleep and gotten back into a routine!

Questions of the Day: What were you up to this weekend? Do you get to see family often? Have you taken a horse drawn carriage ride before? Are you a big Pinterest fan?

I was sad to miss that library event – it looked like SO much fun!

Love the photo of you all in the carriage – we’ve never done that, but I would love to take Eleanor this winter!

We’ll have to go next year! Oh I think Eleanor would love it! There were lots of young families in other carriages. 🙂

What an unbelievable weekend. I think it’s absolutely wonderful that you decided to keep your camera away for most of it & just enjoy the time w/ your family. No need to allow yourself to miss valuable & fun memories because you may of been too busy playing around w/ your electronics. These type of days, weeks, months really are the best kind! Happy birthday to your hubby.. well belated!

It’s funny, I’m always behind a screen during the day so as I’m out doing things I’m much less likely to document it than I would have. I still love taking pictures, because they’re how I remember things, but I’m not all photos all the time anymore.

I have been meaning to check out Salt 88 for awhile now. How vegetarian-friendly are they? And good call on Marks. I LOVE that place!
