I’ve been on a huge podcast kick lately. It started with Serial as I binge-listened to try and find out who the heck killed Hae. When Serial ended I was bummed and didn’t know what to listen to next.
At Junior League brunch a few weeks back everyone was discussing podcasts and lots of good replacements were suggested. I pulled out my phone and immediately started downloading some of the recommendations. I’ve since searched the internet for other Podcast suggestions and have a nice queue going of podcasts I listen to as I walk on the treadmill for an hour after work. It’s a nice way to unwind at the end of the day and learn some new things in the process.
Podcasts bring me a different kind of enjoyment than books and TV. When I watch TV I basically become a lazy blob on the couch. When I read a book my mind is fully engaged but I can’t do anything else with my body or my hands. Podcasts give me the ability engage my mind like a book but do other things at the same time. It’s incredibly refreshing and still very entertaining. And bonus: they’re free!
Here are my top 5 podcast picks that I’ve been loving lately:
For the thinker… Invisibilia. I love this Podcast because it talks about all the intangibles in life and the very tangible effects they have on our life. Thoughts, fears, beliefs and ideas are all explored in great depth. This podcast always leaves me thinking long after it ends.
For the feminist…Stuff Mom Never Told You. If you have a big sister you’ll totally get the concept of this podcast. The hosts talk openly and honestly about being women and discuss the issues that affect our lives today with the candor of a close friend. It’s like talking to your big sister as a kid about getting your period or what the first day of high school would be like and her giving it to you straight.
For the financially minded…Planet Money. This show is all about money. It talks about why some folks have it, some folks don’t, and how it makes the world go round.
For the optimist…TED Radio Hour. Ted Talks always leave me feeling inspired and optimistic about life. They encourage me to think and learn more about new subjects. This podcast goes even further with interviews and backstory on famous TED talks and pieces multiple talks together based on common themes.
For the marketer…Under the Influence. I think this may be my absolutely favorite podcast. I guess that’s a sign I went into the right profession. 😉 This podcast is all about how marketing has shaped and molded every aspect of our lives, oftentimes without us even knowing it.
And BONUS:
For those needing good background music…POSH Podcasts. I first heard about this podcast from Gina this morning. I have since listened to five episodes. It’s a New Jersey DJ company that puts out mashups of top 40 hits and pop classics that will have you dancing along in your seat and seriously wanting to hit a dance floor. Gina uses these Podcasts as workout music. I use them for background music as I compile analytic reports. Let’s just say there’s various uses. 😉
Questions of the Day: Are you a fan of Podcasts? Do you listen to some of the same ones I do? What’s a favorite of yours I didn’t list?

I totally got addicted to Serial and seriously wish there was a more concrete answer for who killed Hae. I have a slew of health & self-help podcasts on my phone, so these would add a nice mix. And I’m SO checking out that Posh podcast. That sounds like a pretty awesome idea to me! haha

Love this list! I just got into podcasts with Serial but love working out to them! My husband also started his own podcast recently called RunIowa! They do reviews of products, interview runner guests, give tips for runners and talk about local races, including Omaha. I have to plug it because he’s my husband, but it’s honestly really good! You can find it on iTunes or podbean or wherever. 🙂
