The Sweetest of Birthdays

July 15, 2015 71 Comments

You guys, I have to wish the happiest of birthdays to someone very special today:

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts: 78th Birthday Her Heartland Soul Erin Fairchild

Krispy Kreme turned 78!! Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday delicious doughnuts, happy birthday to you!

I have loved Krispy Kreme since I was seven years old and lived in Orange Park, Florida. My dad and I used to walk to the local Krispy Kreme store and get our favorite glazed donuts. I remember taking a tour and watching the doughnuts being made fresh in house. At the end of the tour we got free glazed doughnuts. I can still see the machines cooking the doughnuts and remember the delicious smell. You remember the strangest things about being a kid and this is one thing I remember vividly. The memory has become very special to me.

When I moved to Pennsylvania, I remember there being no Krispy Kreme nearby and was very sad. I missed them horribly as other doughnut places just couldn’t compare. Imagine my surprise when I moved to Nebraska and there were Krispy Kremes everywhere! It was like a doughnut miracle!

So to celebrate the deliciousness that is Krispy Kreme, once again living near their stores, and them turning the ripe old age of 78, I got together with Joanna and Jordan for some sweet treats and girl talk!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts: 78th Birthday Her Heartland Soul Erin Fairchild

Krispy Kreme is celebrating their birthday with limited-edition birthday cake batter doughnuts and birthday cake chillers. How cute are these doughnuts? And they’re stuffed with cake batter! The odd one out is the brownie batter doughnut I had to try so I bought it for Josh. Thank goodness for husbands who don’t mind you bringing them home doughnuts with a bite missing!

And for friends who don’t judge you for taking silly doughnut selfies in public! 😉

The birthday cake batter doughnut was unreal. Such a fun and delicious treat. While nothing will beat the original glazed for me, this comes in a very close second. And it got big thumbs ups from the girls! These birthday treats will be available at Krispy Kreme until August 30th. I highly recommend stopping by and trying them for yourself.

And as a special treat Krispy Kreme is giving away a birthday surprise to one lucky reader! All you have to do to enter is follow me on a social media channel. It doesn’t matter which one. I like Krispy Kreme well enough (I’ll honestly never say no to a doughnut, unless it’s a gas station cake doughnut, or has coconut on it), but they’re REALLY sweet. My favorite is the chocolate cake doughnut. Theirs is the best. 🙂
The Krispy Kreme at 120th and Center was the first one I’d ever gone to, and watching the machine make the doughnuts was so cool! This was back in like 2002, I think. I haven’t been there in a long time (I live in CB. We have a KK, but they don’t make theirs in-house. Womp womp).

When I went to Texas, we stopped at a Krispy Kreme and were given a sample fresh from conveyor and it was love at first bite. I also live in Nebraska and sadly the only 2 here are in Omaha and then 1 in Council Bluffs which is 2 hours of travelling for me. 🙁

I can’t do Krispy Kremes anymore (perks of being a celiac) but I remember one of the most exciting things about my family’s first trip to Disney World wasn’t Disney, it was Krispy Kreme pink frosted and colored sprinkle doughnuts 🙂 Growing up in New England it was all about the apple fritters and crullers, but I love anything with pink frosting and still do!

I love donuts, but I have Celiac, so no more Krispy Kremes. As a child, in Rhode Island, we used to stop at a place called Allie’s Donuts on the way to the beach, nothing like a rainbow sprinkle donut on a beach blanket with a chocolate milk to wash it down.
