The race that wasn’t meant to be

September 16, 2013 11 Comments

I was so excited to share with you guys a recap of the Corporate Cup 10k today. It would have been Josh’s first race and our first 10k race. It also would have been a great way for us to explore parts of Omaha on foot. Unfortunately we woke up Sunday morning and it was pouring rain and really windy. Josh hasn’t been feeling the best so we debated if running our longest distance yet in bad weather was a smart idea. By the time we decided we’d give it a shot the roads were closed, we got lost, and by the time we got there the race had started. Womp womp. We were so bummed but at the same time we knew it just wasn’t meant to be that morning. So instead of racing we lounged at home and enjoyed a Sunday together. The weather turned beautiful and it felt like a fall day. We went out for happy hour with new couple friends and had an absolute blast.

And still made sure to get in some running indoors. We have two more races this month that we are looking forward to. Fingers crossed the weather cooperates for them!

We also hung out with Joanna and Jeff and little baby Nora. We had so much fun and I got to try cappuccino crunch gelato. It’s pretty much the best thing ever.

The gelato is actually tied for best thing ever with this breakfast creation. Josh was craving some East coast comfort food on Saturday so we went to Brueggers for breakfast. I saw they had pumpkin cream cheese but thought putting it on a pumpkin bagel would be going a little overboard. When I saw the cinnamon sugar bagel I thought it would be a match made in heaven with the pumpkin and I was right. I tend to do boring combos like light cream cheese on a wheat bagel so this was crazy decadent for me but I enjoyed every bite.

And that plus a party Josh’s department threw was our weekend in a nutshell. This upcoming week should be pretty fun, it’s my birthday week!

Questions of the Day: What was the highlight of your weekend? Do you like to run in the rain?

I don’t mind running in a light rain, but not when it gets heavy.

I’m sorry that you missed the race but it sounds like it worked out in the end. I don’t mind running if it’s drizzling. Pouring rain? No thank you.

Running in the pouring rain isn’t that fun anyway. Hope everyone is well for the next race!

I don’t mind running and a drizzle or a light steady rain, but a down pour or any of those crazy side-ways rains is out of the question. I would rather be home in my cozy home watching Real Housewives re-runs. That bagel looks delicious!

I did the same thing with a bagel this weekend! I got a blueberry bagel with cheesecake cream cheese at Panera Bread and it was amazing! I’ll have to try the cinnamon/pumpkin combo at Brueggers!

Stinks that you guys had to miss your race, but running 10k in the pouring rain doesn’t sound like much fun! Cinnamon sugar bagel sounds delish. There was a bagel place by my job that used to make french toast bagels that were out of this world, but when Tommy and I tried to stop in for breakfast last week, they had closed! 🙁

ERIN! That breakfast is BOSS! Holy smokes, I am drooling. Way to have an ace attitude towards the race not working out…there will be plenty more for you and Josh to CRUSH! xox

That’s too bad that you didn’t get to run the race. Seeing as how you have others coming up, I’m sure it’s not as big of a disappointment knowing you have those to look forward to!
