The Grocer’s Goblin & The Little Mermaid Review

February 3, 2014 2 Comments

I already recapped what I was up to on Super Bowl Sunday with you guys, but I didn’t mention what we were doing earlier in the weekend.

Josh and I went to see a play! The Rose Theater is at the other end of the block from our apartment and is such a treasure. They specialize in plays the whole family can enjoy.

Since Josh and I are big kids at heart this is right up our alley. We had fun making this a date night.

The theater is so beautiful. The Rose Theater just started playing The Grocer’s Goblin & The Little Mermaid this past Friday. Shows will run all Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until February 16th.

The Grocer’s Goblin and The Little Mermaid is a beautiful story within a story. It’s based on the tales of Hans Christen Andersen, not Disney. I had never heard this version of The Little Mermaid before and loved being caught up in the story, not sure of what was going to happen next.

The details in this play were breathtaking. The Grocer’s Goblin segment utilized a puppet operated by two actors. The Little Mermaid segment utilized shadow puppets to create beautiful scenes.

Seeing live actors projected onto the screen was so beautiful. Josh and I had so much fun and definitely recommend this to any couples in the area looking for a cute date night. We can’t wait to go back. 🙂

Question of the Day: Do you know the Hans Christen Andersen version of The Little Mermaid? I had no idea Disney changed so much!

I love plays and musicals! We have an old historic theater in my hometown which is about 45 minutes away and we haven’t been there in forever…I think we need to change that. It’s a great way to switch up date night!
