The Fish Conundrum

May 10, 2013 14 Comments

It’s almost the weekend!

Bailey is super excited. 😀

I mixed it up today and did a hill workout at the gym by cranking up the resistance while only marginally increasing the speed. I really got my heart pumping without even breaking into a run. It was awesome and something I’d like to try again in the future. I am going to miss the TVs at the gym. It was so much fun to workout to The Talk.

I was wearing these bad boys while I was at the gym and they were amazing. The sound was crystal clear and they stayed snug in my ear in the whole time. They were also super cute. They’re the new Koss Fit headphones that I’m going to be reviewing (disclosure: got them for free!) next week.

I ended the day with some flounder and salad. It was super tasty. So far my adventures into fish have been a success. I steamed wild salmon the other day with brussels sprouts and pesto. It may sound like a weird combination but it was fabulous. I’ll have to get a picture the next time I make it. I was worried about undercooking it (fish is so foreign to me) so that by the time I was done it was literally falling apart. It was still super tasty, but not the most photogenic thing in the world. ;p

Thanks for all the love on yesterday’s post about my goal to run a half marathon. I know consistency and dedication are key. I’d love to cheer on your goals over at Team Young, Fit, and Fabulous. I’m so excited for all that we can accomplish when motivating and supporting each other!

Question of the Day: What is something you’re uncomfortable cooking? Fish is so strange to me because it doesn’t turn from pink to brown like beef or pink to white like chicken when it’s done. haha There’s no built in color trick!

i’ve only cooked fish a couple times… i’m def uncomfortable cooking it! i’m very comfortable cooking turkey and chicken (well kind of comfortable… i usually overcook my chicken because i’m scared of it being raw lol) but i really won’t touch red meat in the kitchen.. i make the hubby do it on the grill! raw animal foods gross me out and scare me! though i do love sushi….

I wish fish would change colors or something when it’s done! haha

I’m not all that comfortable with fish either. I’m getting better though, so at least that’s something! I must admit, nothing stresses me out like the Thanksgiving turkey though! haha

    Happy Friday!

Steak. I never cook steak. People are so picky when it comes to cooking it right that, I save myself the stress from cooking it wrong LOL

I never really liked steak. When I did eat red meat I always liked it well done. My sister always liked it more rare. You’re right, everyone is so different with their meat preferences!

Totally agree on the fish! I rarely cook it, usually grill it outside. Not a huge fan. Can’t wait to hear what you think of the FitBuds!

Those headphones sound pretty awesome. I’m always on the lookout for decent stay-in buds that don’t cost a bazillion dollars.

Haha, I talked about adventures in fish cooking on my blog today too! I usually have terrible experiences, but just did a successful salmon the other night. Way to go on the flounder! 🙂

I have a hard time cooking protein, but most specifically, chicken. I don’t know when it’s ready and always decide it’s just better to overcook than to worry the whole time I’m eating that it’s under-cooked.

Your salmon experiment sounds interesting, and I’m sure it will come out more photogenic the next time around.

I get nervous cooking raw chicken. I always have lysol wipes nearby…”just in case” things get crazy. I a such a weirdo about chicken. The flounder looks yummy btw. I have never eaten flounder before-maybe it’s time to give it a try! Cheers!
