Happy Friday! I’m so excited for the weekend. This is my last weekend of work before I’m pretty much done with college. Hallelujah! This week I’ve shared Josh and my apartment hunt and our food adventures in Omaha. I also want to share the hotel we stayed at. We could not recommend a place more highly.
We stayed at the Element by Westin in Midtown Crossing. When we booked the reservation I had no idea what to expect. From the Westin hotels I’ve stayed at before I knew good service is always a top priority but neither one of us were familiar with the Element line. When we drove up we were already impressed by how nice the building looked. Doesn’t it just look like a fun place to stay?
Walking in the lobby was nice. I grew up traveling a lot, and I always get so excited to see the lobby, it feels like a big reveal. It was clean and well decorated and the staff was so friendly. The same guy that checked us in checked us out and he would always smile and wave every time we came in and out of the hotel.
We loved our hotel room. We had no idea it came with a kitchen. The Element is a green hotel with lots of energy saving initiatives. They actually have a key sensor in the room that’s needed to turn on the lights. This ensures that when you leave the room (with your key) the lights are turned off behind you.
Our city view and TV that we never even turned on. We were go-go-go this entire trip.
This bed was heavenly. I love soft beds with plushy comforters and pillows. Josh said it was comfortable but too soft for him. I guess I understand why they create those beds that are adjustable on each side.
I loved the bathroom, especially that huge shower! We were so impressed with how well our room was cleaned every day. The maids not only removed old towels and straightened the bed but they arranged our stuff. Our toothbrushes were put into a cup and my makeup bags were organized. They also turned our towels into bows. This kind of service is just above and beyond and really meant a lot to me.
We were excited that the hotel came with breakfast but we didn’t realize how nice the breakfast was. I’ve had great breakfast at hotels that you have to pay for but this is far and away the nicest complimentary breakfast I’ve ever had.
Every day breakfast was different but I noticed a pattern. There was always two egg offerings, one vegetarian and one not, fresh fruit, and a hot carb with topping options. The one pictured is oatmeal quinoa and it was fabulous. There was always a fresh made smoothie, tons of juice options, bagels, toast, cereal, yogurt, and bread. Everything was perfect.
Aside from a complimentary breakfast they also have a complimentary snack station in the lobby (Pop Chips and Rice Krispy Treats for the win!) and complimentary happy hour during the week. We could only make it to one happy hour because of our schedule but we were so blown away. The night we were there was pasta night with tiramisu for dessert.
There was a make your own pasta bar (with so many options!), a caprese salad, and Italian sausage. Josh and I split this plate (and then went back for dessert) because we were going out to eat afterwards. This could have been a meal though! I’ve never seen a complimentary happy hour this extensive at a hotel. It was incredible.
There was also a complete gym in the hotel that I meant to use and photograph but there was simply no time. We were too busy out exploring and enjoying the area. And I figure I’ll have plenty of time to use the gym in our new apartment. ;p
Every single thing about this hotel was wonderful. The hotel was clean and modern, the employees were helpful and friendly, and the food was fabulous. There was also free wifi which was a huge perk. Even when we ran into a snag at check out with Josh’s direct bill not being set up properly the staff were wonderful and got it all worked out. They even gave us a coupon for a free appetizer at the restaurant we were going to for lunch before heading to the airport.
Josh and I kept joking that if we didn’t find an apartment we’d be happy to live at the hotel. While I’m very excited for our apartment I’m going to miss this hotel. Josh and I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly, with two thumbs way up. We can’t wait to stay at more Westin and Starwood hotels in the future.
Question of the Day: Have you stayed at an Element hotel before? What is a hotel that has completely blown you away with their awesomeness?

I’ve never stayed at an Element hotel, but we did stay at a Westin resort when we were in Maui on our honeymoon, and we loved it!
Erin says
I loved reading your honeymoon recaps! Josh and I are going to Hawaii next summer and I can’t wait!

I like Westins, but I haven’t stayed at an Element before. It looks spectacular. The first time I stayed at a hotel with one of those energy saver light swtiches, I was stymied! I had to call the front desk for help turning the lights on. 8-0
Erin says
I was so impressed with the Element. They made a loyal customer out of me! 😀

Hello Kyle,
Thanks so much for checking out my blog! My fiance and I loved our stay. Unfortunately (but also fortunately!) we’re moving about a half mile from the Element so we won’t be having a reason to stay there anymore. We’re hoping a lot of friends and family stay so we can still check it out!
