*Cue dramatic music.*
After an eternity of waiting (okay it was just four days…) the Vitamix Diane ordered was finally delivered to our house. To say we were excited is an understatement. To think we waited until after dinner before busting it out and whipping up sorbet gives us too much credit.
This peach sorbet from last night was our first Vitamix creation. We used a pound of frozen peaches, 1 cup of vanilla almond milk, and 1/4 cup sugar. It was so good!
The model we got is the Vitamix Creations Elite. Its awesome because it has the same powerful motor as the regular Vitamix but is quieter and shorter so it can fit on counter tops under the counters. It has a place of honor in our kitchen. 😀
For dinner tonight I decided to make a green smoothie using the Vitamix. I call this a mango banana freeze and it is packed with healthy nutrients, good fats, fiber, and protein.
Mango Banana Freeze:
(Makes 1)
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups spinach
- 1 mango peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup frozen chopped bananas
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 1/2 tablespoons hemp protein powder
Blend for about 30 seconds and enjoy!
I was so excited to get to try this bad boy! I saw Wegmans was selling Ataulfo mangoes for $1 and was intrigued. I had never seen them before but they were on a super sale so I figured what the heck, I’d try them. Also known as a champagne mango, it is so smooth and creamy, it almost melts in your mouth as you eat it! I had quite a few samples before blending it up. ;p
All of the ingredients in the blender. Hemp protein looks so funny but its taste is by far my favorite of the protein powders I’ve tried.
I love how quickly a Vitamix works. 30 seconds later my dinner was ready.
I ate up every last bit of this ooey gooey green stuff.
It was such a thick smoothie I ate it through a straw. It was filling and nutritious and absolutely delicious. The Vitamix’s blade is so strong it pulverizes the spinach. This is the first green smoothie I’ve had without any spinach chunks left in it and that doesn’t taste like I’m drinking a salad. It was naturally sweet and so tasty, I couldn’t even taste the spianch. It reminded me of a banana mango smoothie. This was the first green smoothie I’ve not only finished but looked forward to drinking again!
And of course we had to have dessert! ;p Diane mixed a pound of frozen raspberries with 1/4 a cup of sugar and 1 cup of vanilla almond milk. This sorbet was so delicious, I loved how it still had the seeds in it and tasted so fresh.
I definitely have a new addiction with this thing! Next on our to-do list is making homemade soups with it!
I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend! I’m heading to bed so I can be rested for my last two finals tomorrow before summer starts. After class I’m heading to Josh’s for the weekend. I’ve really missed him while he was in Cali. I’ll be back sometime early next week with weekend updates. 🙂
Question of the Day: Do you have any favorite smoothie or sorbet recipes? Please share! Diane and I are on a blending spree!

I want a VitaMix! I doubt I can convince the husband, though. I’ve bought machine after machine… and then rarely used them. Our kitchen is a Cuisinart and Kitchenaid grave yard.
Erin says
It is so easy to do that, I’m determined not to let that happen with the Vitamix! Especially because my dad will kill us if that happens, and he thinks it was only $40! ;p
Leah @ Chocolate and Wild Air says
Jealous that you got a VitaMix! They sound fabulous.
Also, sidenote – I love that you mentioned playing dress-up in your about me. Dressing should be fun, like playing dress-up every day!!
Erin says
Aw thanks so much! So far it has been absolutely amazing! I really can’t wait to see how soups turn out in it.
And I love dressing up, its so much fun and just makes you feel good about yourself! 🙂

Wow! I’m impressed with the VitaMix. We have a very slow blender. I may have to put this on my wish list.
Erin says
You won’t regret it! It is amazing!

I used to use a VitaMix at work to make smoothies, and I was never impressed with the devices. Maybe I was just using an old and worn-down machine? Maybe I was just upset to be making smoothies for hours on end? Still, interesting to hear you take on VitaMix as perhaps I need to rethink my stance on them.
Erin says
I love it but I could see how making things with them all the time for work could make you hate them. That never happened to me when I worked at an ice cream shop for the summer and had to use a blender to make milkshakes all the time. I think it was because I got to make as many for myself as I wanted! ;p

Yum! 🙂 What a fun appliance to have! I’m jealous of all of the delicious smoothies in your future!!
Erin says
Aw thank you! I’m so excited to use it all the time!!

I don’t have any smoothie recipes, but I do love a strawberry-banana version. Simple and basic, but it makes my tummy happy. Great post, super photos… keep drinking strong. 🙂

Thanks so much! I’m so excited to make another smoothie tomorrow!
