Tasting Cantina Laredo’s Tequila Dinner

May 7, 2014 18 Comments

Have you guys ever been to a tequila dinner?

When Josh and I were in Mexico we went to some fabulous tequila tastings. But the tequila was always sampled on its own. I’ve never been to a dinner where each course is perfectly paired with a matching drink. Cantina Laredo is bringing the experience we had in Mexico to Omaha, and making it even better. (The above link takes you to Cantina Laredo’s national website. To view info on Omaha’s Cantina Laredo check out their Facebook page.)

We sampled three different types of Don Julio. These are all 100% blue agave. (Aka the good stuff.) In order from youngest to oldest: Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo. Typically the older the tequila the more expensive it is. If you want to try the *really* good stuff they have a version of Don Julio that’s $80 a shot! The staff at Cantina Laredo were so knowledgeable and eager to answer our questions and teach us about tequila.

Cantina Laredo put together this tequila dinner preview for a group of Omaha bloggers. I was honored to be invited. We got to experience the tequila dinner before the public event on Friday, June 13th. And oh what an experience it was.

So here’s the rundown on the special dinner coming up:

Four-Course Dinner at Cantina Laredo

Date: Friday, June 13th

Time: 7pm

Location: Cantina Laredo at Midtown Crossing

Cost: $49.99

What you get: An incredible deal on some seriously good food. Cantina Laredo created this menu just for the tequila tasting, meaning you can’t order these dishes off the regular menu. A four course meal + four mixed drinks + three tequila tastings + friends = the formula for one fun night. Read on to see some pictures and descriptions of the food.

1st Course- Appetizer:

One yummy Cosmolito.

Veggie option (pictured above): Masa corn cake with peppers, cactus, black beans, avocado, and queso fresco. I’ve never eaten cactus before! Apparently it’s really tasty because I LOVED this dish. It has a spicy kick to it which I normally can’t tolerate but on this dish I ate it all up.

Meat option (not pictured): Crab avocado chalupas. Everyone raved about these.

2nd Course- Salad:

Mango tequila mojito. My favorite drink of the night!

Cranberry pecan salad. So light, so flavorful, so good.

3rd Course- Entree:

Tengo calor margarita. Delicious!

Veggie Option 1 (pictured): Portobello enchilada with goat cheese and a side of sauteed zucchini and Mexican rice.  This was the best meal I’ve ever eaten at Cantina Laredo. And I’ve eaten good meals here more than a few times. You will not be disappointed if you get this dish.

Veggie Option 2 (not pictured): Queso fresco enchiladas in a spicy sauce with zucchini and cilantro lime rice. Hannah got this and raved about it. If you are looking for a spicy veggie meal this is the one for you.

Meat Option 1 (not pictured): Sea bass oscar. Most of the girls got this and they all loved it. Words like buttery, delicious, and amazing were thrown around a lot as everyone discussed their plates.

Meat Option 2 (not pictured): Lamb chops with pistachio pipian. Janelle got this and said it was great. If you’re looking for some meat to go with your tequila this is the perfect choice.

4th Course- Dessert:

Hot summer never ending. Unfortunately this drink was a little too hot for me. Some of the girls loved the heat but I cannot drink spicy things. It’s probably for the best because I had enjoyed a lot of delicious drinks by that point. ;p

Sorbet trio. I love sorbet! It’s so tasty and refreshing after a big meal. This plate was empty in about two bites. 😀

I had such a great time laughing and chatting the night away with a wonderful group of girls. Cantina Laredo has such a fun atmosphere. If you’re looking for a cool date night or a dinner with girlfriends, this event is perfect for you. When else can you get a four course meal with booze for $49? To register for the June 13th event simply call 402.345.6000. Cantina Laredo just requests that if you would like a vegetarian or gluten-free meal that you let them know a few days in advance as they have to buy the ingredients for the those meals special. Josh was very excited to hear about the veggie meal option as he is likely going to be buying a ticket for this event. It’s right up his alley. 😀

Questions of the Day: Have you ever been to a tequila dinner? Is this something that interests you?

When I was trying the tequilas I said to Hannah, “This tastes just like a margarita!” She was like, “You obviously drink really strong margaritas!” haha

I not only love all the Tequila options but love that the food looks fresh. Too often I go into a Mexican Restaurant, order and feel like my food has all been blended together and no longer looks like food. If I lived near you, I’d visit for sure 🙂

Yes! This stuff was all bought and cooked fresh. I’ve become a bit of a food snob in that when that doesn’t happen I notice and it makes me like the dish and the restaurant a lot less.

I had such a fun time with all of you!! The food was amazing and I definitely left with a very happy tummy. Now I just wish that I would have had a DD so that I could have enjoyed ALL of the drinks. I was even surprised that I actually liked the mojito since those are normally not my thing.

I have yet to try Cantina Laredo but it looks so good! And those drinks look super good but could be a little dangerous if they all had tequila in them!

They were a little dangerous! haha Thankfully a long dinner and lots of filling food kept the side effects at bay!
