I got a new blender today! Or rather my dad got me a new blender today, because he accidentally broke my old one a few weeks ago. I was so excited to test it out and whip up something yummy. After getting home from a particularly grueling aerobics workout involving upper body strength training, I was craving something filling.
I decided to make a Green Smoothie using this recipe from Allrecipes.
1 banana
2 cups chopped kale
1/4 cup milk
1/3 cup orange juice
It took literally two minutes to get everything in the blender. I used the blend setting on high for a minute or two. Kale can be hard to blend so you want to make sure you give it enough time in the blender.
It smelled so good.
And it tasted even better! I’m still learning a lot about green smoothies as I’ve only had a few but I love how they taste and the nutrients they pack. I try not to drink my calories a lot as they never fill me up but with a smoothie like this I feel like I’ve eaten a meal.
When dinner time rolled around I was craving a variety of things. Tonight was pancake night at my house but I wasn’t really feeling like butter and syrup so I decided to make a pancake and top it with some of Tait Farm’s Sour Cherry Jam. It was so good.
To add a little more protein to my meal I ended up eating the leftover tofu from last night’s meal. I totally ate it cold and with my fingers straight out of the tupperware. I’m classy. And weird that I generally love foods just as much when they’re cold. In fact I put things like chocolate and syrup in the refrigerator so they can get cold before I eat them because I think they taste better like that.
After dinner I was really exciting to get to do a taste testing with my parents. The awesome people at Superfood Snacks sent me samples of their products to try.
Superfood Snacks makes “Energy Nuggets” that are Raw and USDA Organic. The two flavors I received to sample were the Brazilian Chocolate Ecstasy and Chocolate Cherry Qi. They are made without wheat, gluten, dairy, rice, soy, corn, fillers, or refined sugars. And they come from Hawaii!
My dad loves the camera! ;p His favorite was the Chocolate Cherry Qui. It is made with dried cherries, raw cacao, pumpkin seeds, and blue green algae. Diane and I really didn’t care for this, I felt it had a vinegar taste and was too sour for my liking.
Diane and I’s favorite (Andy’s too apparently) was the Brazilian Chocolate Ecstasy, made with brazil nuts, raw cacao, chia seeds, and mango. It had a chocolate, nutty flavor that we both really enjoyed.
It was fun to get to sample them both. They are very dense and a snack I feel is perfect for hiking or bike riding or similar activities where you are out and about working up a sweat and needing some energy.
Time to get back to working on things for Josh and I’s anniversary weekend! I’ll have a special post tomorrow about it around 1pm before I head to State College and go MIA for the weekend so make sure to check it out!
Question of the Day: Do you have weird food habits? I seem to refrigerate everything, and can eat almost any meal for breakfast.
Liz @ iheartvegetables says
I’ve never tried kale in my smoothies! I usually use spinach and it’s basically undetectable! 🙂
Erin says
Yeah I think I prefer spinach because it’s a little sweeter but kale is still pretty awesome!
