Good morning! I hope you are all having a great start to your Thursday! This post is getting up a little later than usual due to me falling asleep on the couch last night while I was trying to post it. I got as far as uploading a picture I was so exhausted. But after a great night’s sleep and a big bowl of Chobani and oats while I type this I’m feeling refreshed and ready to share the second part of my Labor Day weekend celebrations with you!
Sunday morning Josh, Nat, Micheal and I woke up early to meet with some Penn State faculty over brunch. Josh and I LOVE the Penn Stater for awesome, delicious, affordable options at their sports bar Legends. For the first time we were venturing to their other restaurant, the grown up and fancy Gardens, for their famous Sunday brunch. We were blown away by all the options. Here was my first plate of breakfast food. The French Toast was bananas foster French Toast. Accompanied with a mimosa it was such a fancy, delicious breakfast.
This was half of the food stations. I felt awkward taking photos so I tried to take them as quickly and unobtrusively as possible.
There was a jazz band playing in the corner of the restaurant. They were so good and it really helped set the mood for breakfast.
My second plate, this was my lunch plate. Delicious raviolis, and veggies, along with a side of two slices of cake. haha Somehow brunch ended up lasting for three hours, we were all having so much fun talking and chatting. It was such a great morning.
After brunch it was unfortunately time to say goodbye to Nat and Micheal and get started on work for the upcoming week. 🙁 For dinner Josh and I went to our favorite, Pita Cabana for yet another delicious falafel pita. I will never get tired of these things.
For dessert we broke out Eden, the bottle of ice cider Josh’s parents got us to celebrate our engagement. They are so thoughtful, and they know our tastes so well. Josh and I both agreed it was one of the top five drinks we’ve ever had. If only PA didn’t have such strict liquor laws, I would be ordering this all the time for special occasions!
Monday morning was lazy and relaxed and restful. When 4 oclock rolled around Josh and I began the walk downtown to get dinner at Mad Mex. I talk about Mad Mex all the time on here and that is because it is amazing! If you don’t get there by 6 on Monday nights you won’t be able to find a seat.We started off with you picka dippa and got quacamole, salsa, and pepita hummus. They bring out enough dip and chips it makes a meal on its own!
But of course we didn’t do that because Monday’s are Mad Mex special nights! From 4pm until close Mad Mex charges $5 for their 22 ounce “big azz” margaritas. Josh and I both ordered the seasonal frozen apple cider and it was so incredible. I had no idea what to expect of it but the waitress said it was her favorite of all the flavors so I took a risk. I’m so glad I did because it is by far my favorite margarita flavor ever.
The other star of the show was unlimited “mini” burritos for $5. I say mini but you can see by the size that really isn’t so. I started off with a mushroom burrito, then a veggie and cheese burrito, then finished with a tofu burrito. By the last burrito I was just picking pieces out of it I was so full but they were all delicious.
I love long weekends. Getting to spend Monday with Josh was so much fun. It makes me so excited for when we’re married and I don’t just see him on the weekends but before and after work every day! 🙂
Question of the Day: What is the best deal you’ve found on food at restaurants? I love Mad Mex’s Monday specials. If you don’t get an appetizer and stick to one drink and a few burritos you’re only looking at $10 for a huge dinner!
