My smile has always been a bit of a sore subject for me. My teeth, as I’m sure you can tell, are crooked. Growing up, there was nothing I wanted more than braces. I was so envious seeing all my friends with their metal mouths in middle school. But my dad couldn’t afford them and so I spent a lot of time in the mirror practicing smiling in a way that minimized the gap between the top and bottom of my mouth and made my teeth look a little less crooked. It’s a half smile, done with only the top part of my mouth. It’s the way I still smile today.
While my dad wasn’t able to afford braces for me as a kid, he was able to instill in me good brushing habits. Growing up I was always told what strong, healthy teeth I had. When I complained to my dentist that I wanted to rip my teeth out and have veneers put in as soon as I could afford them, my dentist told me matter of factly that people would kill to have teeth as healthy as mine. Crooked teeth can be straightened. Unhealthy teeth are a lot harder to deal with.
His words stuck with me, and even now as I’m getting ready to get my teeth fixed, I feel thankful my teeth are currently as healthy as they are. While I couldn’t control the look of my teeth, I can control their strength, health, and shine.
Good brushing and daily flossing are the key to healthy teeth. And it’s important to make sure you’re maximizing that brushing with products that will go the extra mile for your teeth. Colgate Enamel Health Mineral Repair Toothpaste can help strengthen your teeth’s enamel by replenishing it with vital minerals, such as natural calcium, for stronger, healthy enamel. With continued use, Colgate Enamel Health Mineral Repair provides protection against sensitivity and cavities in addition to providing whitening and fresh breath benefits.
Our teeth’s enamel is so important because once it is lost you can never get it back. Our enamel is the protective layer on our teeth and actually the hardest tissue in the human body. Without enamel our teeth are vulnerable and weak. This is why I’m such a big fan of Colgate Enamel Health Mineral Repair Toothpaste.
So while I may not have the prettiest teeth (yet!), they are pretty strong, and very healthy. That is definitely worth smiling about. (Or, sort of smiling while your husband takes a photo of you brushing your teeth. 😉

Such a good lesson that healthy teeth are more important than straight teeth! I have fairly straight teeth other than a gap between my top and bottom rows (like, my top row sticks out but doesn’t cover my bottom teeth if that makes any sense?). Anyway, it was nice to hear your story! Teeth definitely aren’t something anyone really talks about- but everyone notices on themselves!

I am going to check out this toothpaste! I know how important enamel is and it freaks me out that once you lose it, it’s gone forever, so I always try to take good care of my teeth. You have a beautiful smile and I would never be able to tell that you have crooked teeth, but I know you’ve mentioned it before and I’m so excited for you to get your teeth straightened! What route are you going — braces, Invisalign, etc.?
