This weekend was such a fun treat. For our one year wedding anniversary Josh surprised me with a staycation. We were blocks away from our apartment but truly felt like we were on vacation. We love doing this and recommend it to others for a fun little getaway.
Our staycation at Hotel Deco XV
Josh booked us a one night stay at Hotel Deco XV located in the Old Market section of downtown Omaha.
The hotel is surrounded by lots of restaurants and shops. It’s in a great location.
Hotel Deco XV is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. The building just oozes history. You can tell these walls would have a lot of stories to share if they could talk.
It’s also a AAA Four-Diamond Hotel – one of two in the state of Nebraska. This means fun perks like complimentary valet parking and fuzzy robes waiting for you in your room.
The lobby
The lobby was absolutely breathtaking. It was one of the most beautiful lobbies I have ever seen. The front desk was super welcoming and all the staff were really pleasant.
Something I’ve noticed about Omaha is that the city loves its high ceilings. The ones in our apartment are 12 feet tall and I don’t even know how tall these one are. I love it.
The fitness center
I got in a sweat session at the fitness center on Saturday and thought the amenities were really nice. I appreciated all the options they had. I did a HIIT workout and made use of the TKO mat. After my HIIT session, I did a quick arm workout with their weights.
The only thing I was confused about was why there were locker rooms that were closed up and locked. There was also an area for a hot tub that looked covered and closed. Maybe parts of the fitness center are undergoing renovations?
Our suite
Josh spoiled me and sprung for a suite for our staycation. Walking in, I oohed and ahhed. I absolutely love the floor to ceiling curtains and the grey color scheme. It’s so me.
I love this wall paper! So cute.
As well as this picture. I wanted to take it home with me.
And this glass mirror over the bar. Love! Gosh, I should just go to hotels to get decorating advice. haha
The bright light from the living room windows streamed into the bedroom. It made the place feel so inviting.
This bed was so comfy.
I love the his and her vanities.
This rainfall shower with multiple jets was heaven. A regular shower really doesn’t compare.
The only downside is that the shower base pools water by the door instead of directing it to the drain. This leads to flooding the bathroom floor every time you open the door. We had to call and request more towels three times! There was a water mark on the wall from where water had stained it before. We called maintenance to have them come look at it and they said that’s just a flaw in the design of the shower and that there isn’t anything they could do.
If we weren’t having an absolute blast and loving everything else about the hotel, I would have been a little upset by this. It is really annoying to walk across a bathroom floor and get your feet wet every time. Four-Diamonds should not have problems like this – period.
But the thing about Omaha is that even really nice hotels are affordable. And you get so much for the money you spend. So in the end it was a minor blip in an otherwise perfect weekend.
We ordered room service Sunday morning and enjoyed it in the living room while watching the news and snuggling up in our robes. I somehow managed to delete the picture of our breakfast, but I got sweet cream pancakes with fruit and scrambled eggs while Josh got banana bread oatmeal. They were both delicious and very reasonably priced. The food is from the Zin Room next door. It’s a restaurant Josh and I have been wanting to try for a while now, and it was a great meal to end our stay-cation with.
And that was our little trip in a nutshell. It felt so great to get to spend time with Josh and just enjoy each other’s company. I don’t know how I got so lucky to meet and marry him but I am grateful every day. We have built such a wonderful relationship and life together and it is great to take opportunities to celebrate that love we have for one another.

We’ve never stayed somewhere so close to home, but thankfully, if you drive a couple hours you can be at the beach, or in the woods, or in the snow… it’s kind of like a staycation.

Nice! It reminds me that our honeymoon was basically a staycation, since we only had a long weekend and stayed in D.C. (We took a real trip a few months later). It’s amazing how different your own city can seem when you aren’t staying at home.
Erin says
Ohh a staycation in DC would be amazing! That’s my favorite city!

Cute! This is where Kevin stays for work in Omaha. He says all the same things about the shower– loves the jets but poorly designed. The decor is amazing though! We may stay here for Christmas so we can walk over to Sullivans for a nice dinner!
