If you and I were having a conversation and the topic turned to grocery stores (it always turns to food with me) you would know that I have been dreaming of living close to a Whole Foods.
The one I went to back on the East Coast (“back home” doesn’t seem appropriate anymore) was a trek, and while totally worth it, was a long drive. It is amazing to be living 15 minutes from one now. I’ve talked about a lot of their products on here before and it’s because I love what Whole Foods stands for. It’s nice walking into a grocery store and knowing that a company sorted through the sea of food products out there to find the ones that are made with the highest quality ingredients and are free of things I really don’t want to be putting in my body. It makes me feel like Whole Foods is looking out for me. It’s also nice when those good products are affordable. Stocking your fridge with healthy foods does not have to cost your whole paycheck. At Whole Foods it’s easy to shop smart by scoping out the sales and checking out their weekly coupon books. Josh and I have gotten great prices on some our favorite products at Whole Foods.
They’re running two sales this week that I’m pretty excited about. This Friday, August 16th, conventional avocados are 5 for $5! We’re right in the middle of cookout season and I am so excited to whip up some fresh guacamole this weekend to enjoy with grilled summer favorites. Seasoning it with lime will not only enhance the flavor but keep your guacamole fresh for days and days.
I’m pretty sure avocados make just about everything taste better. They are loaded with healthy fats that are not only good for your insides but increase the shine in your hair and the glow of your skin.
The other sale that is pretty awesome is the bulk bin sale going on this Saturday, August 17th. The bulk bins, nut grinders, and bulk herbs and spices are all 20% off. This is a great way to try some new items you’ve been hearing about, or in my case, stock up a kitchen seriously lacking cooking staples. We have been so excited to start cooking in our new apartment and unpacked our kitchen gadgets all excitedly. We then realized we didn’t bring any of our basic cooking ingredients that are in almost every recipe. Whole Foods to the rescue!
I love that the history of the food is included on the label. I know where my food is coming from and what is or isn’t an ingredient. It feels awesome to shop local and support nearby farmers. Nebraska certainly has enough farms!
The Omaha bulk bin aisle is like a candy store for adults. And the bonus is they still have candy bins in there too! I may try to eat healthy most of the time but I still love my fruit gummies. Sometimes you just have to splurge.
The bulk bins at Whole Foods just look so inviting. They’re stocked to the brim and are always so well kept and organized. They have everything from cereal to dried fruit to chocolate energy bars. With that many products I know it must be a difficult task for them to keep it so neat so I have to give them props.
Josh was flying back from the East Coast so I was shopping solo but I think I did a good job of stocking us up on the essentials. It’s nice to finally get to put our new tupperware to use. Here’s some of my food picks:
I’m so excited to do a lot of cooking (and eating!) in the near future!
If you’re nearby a Whole Foods I definitely recommend checking them out this weekend. It’s always fun to hit up a sale and grab some goodies.
Questions of the Day: Are you a Whole Foods fan? What are some of your favorite bulk bin items?

Yes, I’m a big Whole Foods fan, how could I not be — I live in Austin. I love their bulk food, seafood, and salad bars . . . . wish there was one just a little closer to my house. Remember once on a trip to NYC, we arrived and it was pouring down rain – had to cancel our plans for walk a few blocks hunting for the most fabulous place to dine — made a mad dash across the street to Whole Foods, bought a bottle of wine and took advantage of all their ready-prepped foods
Erin says
That sounds like a fabulous time in NYC! I grabbed a juice and smoothie there on national drink your veggies day. I was love the Whole Foods, but not the creepy guy next to me who kept asking me if I like to ride horses. LOL
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Sadly, there’s no Whole Foods near me! I’m always so jealous of everyone who talks about their Whole Foods shopping excursions!
Erin says
Aww I hope they open one by you soon! I feel the same way about Soul Cycle, but I think it’s going to be a looong time before they make it to Omaha.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I love Whole Foods. Probably too much. Sometimes when I get bored I just go there and walk around. LOL!
P.S. Before you use all thouse avocados, check out the Guacamole Hummus I posted today. 😉
Erin says
I’m off to check that guacamole hummus recipe out!! Thanks! And yeah, the atmosphere is so fun I like to just walk around there too! ;p

bulk bins are 20% off?!??! that’s amazing!!! i would go crazy there!! i know whole foods is generally more expensive than traditional grocery stores, but you have to take into consideration the quality of their food. plus, their sales are AWESOME! especially their 3-day weekend sales!
Erin says
I know I freaked out a little bit when I saw what a great deal some of the bulk bins were! Yeah I am definitely a sales shopper. Josh and I are still very new to having grown up jobs so it’s always important we be smart with our money!

I shop at Whole Foods for special occasions. If they had the squishy white bread my husband likes to eat I might shop there more frequently!
Erin says
haha I don’t think I’ve had squishy white bread in a long time. I do long Italian bread though. Oh man that is delicious!
Joanna @Makingmine says
Teach me your ways haha! I ALWAYS spend too much when I go to Whole Foods. I need to check out the bulk – I LOVE your containers!
Erin says
Thanks! They were wedding registry gifts! haha Yes, there is so much in the bulk containers in our WF, I was blown away! We should do a shopping/lunch date there sometime!
Pamela Hernandez says
Anytime we are near a Whole Foods we stock up on shredded coconut from the bulk bins. My husband loves it in everything! Did you know that if you buy a case of their house brand product you get a 10% discount? We buy their PB a case at a time!
Erin says
That is so good to know!! Thank you so much! I go through PB by the case so that would definitely be helpful! haha
Danielle says
Such an awesome post! I do a lot of my shopping at whole foods and when I’m careful of it, I actually spend less than I normally do at my regular grocery store. They have great deals if you look for them 🙂
Erin says
Yes! I think Whole Foods gets a really unfair reputation a lot of times. Some things are more expensive because of their source and quality of ingredients, but they have awesome, awesome sales! I’m one of the most price conscious people I know! haha
Meredith @ DareYouTo says
WOW thanks for the tip on avocados!! I am definitely going to get some of those.
So necessary to shop the sales. I get the emails with Whole Foods sales so I know when I can get high quality stuff for less.
Erin says
I looove avocados!! And saving money is always a good thing, especially when it’s on healthy foods!
Kammie @ Sensual Appeal says
Gotta love Whole Foods. Gotta dislike their prices. I have never bought stuff in bulk just because I live alone and it’d be hard for me to use it all up… I know I don’t have to buy a lot but I don’t know. I’m weird. Great post though for sure.
Erin says
Yeah I used to think Whole Foods was so expensive and then I started shopping there and was shocked at how reasonable a lot of their stuff is. Josh was not excited when I told him we’d be moving super close by a Whole Foods, he always assumed theyre outrageous and that I would spend a lot of money. Then I took him inside the one in Omaha and he fell in love. Now he asks me to go more often! haha
Deanna says
We have a pretty awesome Whole Foods in Cleveland….It’s one of the few that has a restaurant inside 🙂 Everything I get from the prepared foods section has always been amazing!
Erin says
I love their prepared foods! It inspires me to be able to cook things that tasty!
Liana@RunToMunch says
They just opened one near my house and I love it!
They also have 1 day flash sales!
Erin says
I’m so excited to be able to live close enough to take advantage of the one day flash sales!!
Jenny @ simply be me says
I only ever buy things on sale when I go to Whole Foods (actually, I think it’s named Choices but a similar idea) but those trips are few and far between because I live so far away. It’s always exciting when avocados are on sale!
Erin says
I love good deals! And avocados are delicious!
Maria@TheBrooklynFig says
I live in Jersey and the closest Whole Foods is about 30-40 minutes away. I go only a couple of times a year, but it’s definitely a treat. I miss the bulk bins and the hot bar most of all!
Erin says
Their hot bar is amazing! Josh and I both just tried their paninis when they were on sale for $5!
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
Great post! Like I said on Facebook, Whole Foods is too fat away for me to shop, but I do like it! I shop at (Super) Target. I like the selection of produce!
Erin says
Super Target is great! Josh and I have been getting a ton of furniture and house decorations from there.
