Shark Week Cookies

June 21, 2016 34 Comments

Mark your calendars, Shark Week is back early this year! Tune into Discovery Channel this Sunday, at 8/7 CT for a week full of educational shark programming. To celebrate, I’ve partnered with Baker’s to share a fun shark cookie perfect for your Shark Week festivities! While they may look fierce, they’re perfectly sweet. 😉

Shark Week Cookies Her Heartland Soul

My friend Jordan and I made these cookies together. I had never made cookies like this before so I was super excited to try my hand at this style of cookie. It’s essentially a sugar cookie with lemon royal icing frosting.

Bakers Storefront Omaha Her Heartland Soul

Baker’s is the closest full-size grocery store by my house, which makes it perfect for running to get supplies. It’s convenient, affordable, and always super clean with a great selection. I’m a huge proponent of store brands, so I’m all about their Simple Truth and Private Selection brands. Same ingredients, less money!

Ingredients

Soft Gel Paste Food Coloring
Shark and Surfer Cookie Cutters
Icing Bottles
Pearl Sprinkles
Toothpicks
Flour
Kosher Salt
Cold Unsalted Butter
Sugar
Eggs
Baking Powder
Real Vanilla Extract
Egg Whites
Fresh Lemon Juice
Light Corn Syrup

Directions

To make these, I used the best sugar cookie recipe out there. For simple and easy-to-understand directions on how to make these cookies check out Alison Faulkner’s cookie recipe. It is totally worth it. (BTW, this is not an affiliate link, just the recipe that all my friends swear by.) If they turned out this good when someone totally new to this type of cookie decorating did it, you know it’s good!

In the immortal words of Tracy Jordan: “Live every week like it’s Shark Week.”

Those cookies are so cute! I like the shark bites. Do you have any left for me?

I thought the surfboards turned out so cute! I love the vibrancy of the color! Unfortunately my work ate them all! They were gone in half a day!

These are SO stinkin’ cute! I’m pretty darn excited about Shark Week, and it is good to know that it is earlier this year!

I hear you on the store brands thing. Why pay more when you can get a product that is JUST as good (or sometimes even better)?

Yes! Especially when you know the private labels are buying their products from the big brands!

These were so fun to make together! I love that baking and decorating sugar cookies can be such a fun girls night activity! I love that we were able to find everything that we needed just down the street at Bakers. It was so convenient when we realized we forgot a couple ingredients and had to have Josh run back to get them for us! 😉
