Today I felt like a million bucks.
A stinky, sweaty million bucks. Lululemon somehow manages to make me feel cute even when I know I look otherwise. ;p Today could have easily been a rest day. Yesterday I met with my trainer at school and while I got in a great workout that focused on strength training my arms and legs, I woke up sore and seriously exhausted. It was probably a combo of a long, rainy day, and lack of sleep. The whole day I was thinking about getting home so I could rest and relax, but I knew I needed to go to the gym before heading home for the night.
I made up a lot of excuses. My legs would hurt, I’d be too tired to run, or I’d run really slow. But I laced up my Sauconys, drove my car to the gym, and decided I was going to work out anyway. A ho-hum workout is still better than no workout. And as if just to prove all my worries and me wrong my workout was amazing. I started running and all the pain and soreness in my legs went away. If anything my legs felt stronger. I did a 45 minute run and was able to cover 3.6 miles. I know that is slow for a lot of you but that is fast for me. I was so proud of myself.
My workout flew by thanks in large part to my gym’s awesome treadmills. Each cardio machine has a tv attached to it that tracks your workout, plays the radio, TV, or music videos for you while you run. You can even race against other users using the machine towns or states away. I selected the hip hop music videos and applied my sprint one song, fast walk the next to the music videos. The bonus was the videos are longer than the actual song so I ended up increasing my running time without even thinking about it or noticing it. I left there with the biggest runner’s high, my whole body alive with endorphins. I felt so proud of myself for not caving in and for doing what was right for my body. I needed a workout today.
I was pretty famished after my workout so I decided to head home and whip up a green smoothie. Oh, Vitamix, I am going to enjoy you for every single day that I possibly can. You better believe one of these things is going on Josh and my wedding registry. I’ve become so dependent on it for the best smoothies ever and so used to making everything in seconds. When using other blenders I find myself wondering if they’re even on the motor is so weak. Vitamix is definitely where it’s at. ;p
Today’s flavor was a big mug of pineapple, strawberry, raspberry, banana, spinach, chia seeds, and hemp protein powder. It was the perfect smoothie and so good I finished every last drop!
And now it’s time for me to get to bed! I’m hoping a good night’s sleep can take away some of my fatigue. I’m bad about go-go-going like the energizer bunny even when I know I won’t be able to make up the energy for a while. I did want to point out the new ad on my sidebar before I say goodnight though. As you may remember from my running shoe vlog, working with Road Runner Sports to order running shoes was such an amazing experience for me. From the super fast (and free!) shipping to the huge money savings, to the personal guarantee of a 60 day (90 days if you spend a few dollars to join their VIP club) test run with your shoe where you have no obligation to keep ones that don’t work for you, I was blown away by how awesome the company is and how easy they are to do business with. I now know that my Suacony Omni 11’s are the perfect running shoe for me but when I first started I wasn’t 100% sure and felt nervous spending so much on a shoe without knowing how it would perform on my foot. RRS‘s test run program really alleviated my worries and made shoe shopping a fun experience instead of a stressful one.
I put the link up there on my blog not because I am expecting to make some crazy revenue from click-throughs, but because it is a website I am very passionate about supporting. They do good business with great customer service at extremely reasonable prices. That’s a win-win in my book, especially when I’m buying things that are a little out of my comfort zone. So if you’re looking for a good place to make purchases to start your running experience with or are just looking to try out a different kind of shoe to see how it works on your foot I really recommend Road Runner Sports. It’s rare I find a website I am so impressed with in every aspect of their operations but this is definitely one of them.

Kim @ Living, Laughing & Losing says
Congrats on a great run! Very cool that your gym has nice equipment – mine has really old machines, so I find myself pounding the pavement in the HOT Florida weather.
I’m just hoping to complete the Couch to 5k program, so your run is very impressive to me! 🙂
Erin says
Aw thank you! I’ve heard really good things about the Couch to 5K! I hope it works for you!
And I’m sorry to hear that about your gym! I feel so lucky my school is able to invest in a good one.

Katie @wishandwhimsy says
I recently bought lululemon pants…and I’m IN LOVE! They power me through my workouts, too. When you’ve got confidence, you workout twice as hard it seems. I also just purchased some Sauconys and LOVE how they fit my feet when I run.
Way to go!!!
Erin says
It is so true, when I workout in cute clothes it makes me feel better which makes my workout better. I am on a serious Lululemon kick at the moment, I keep on finding more pants and tops and bras I want!
And yay! I’m so happy you’re loving your Sauconys. They have been awesome for my feet! I’m so glad the guy at the shoe store recommended them to me!
Kierston says
I love lulu! So comfy. I could just do about anything in it!
I got a runners high, definitely, this past weekend! 🙂
Erin says
I have a serious case of Lululemon obsession going on! I just ordered some of their headbands and I’m so excited to get them! Congrats on the runners high! Isn’t it the best?
Jen says
Great job 🙂 It is the best feeling when you have such a great run!
Erin says
Thank you! It really really is the best feeling!
Heather says
I had a runner’s high the other day when I had a really great 3 mile run, I hadn’t run under 30 minutes since before my injury so it made me feel like i was making progress back to where I was!
Erin says
That’s amazing! I’m so glad you’re healing up and making progress!
Sarah Kay Hoffman says
I haven’t done a long run in such a long time…I keep it 3 miles or less these day, short bursts! But I LOVE the runner’s high. IT’s one of the most amazing feelings!
Erin says
It really is! It made me so happy I pushed through the excuses to get a workout in!
Amanda @ Run Principessa says
Look at you kick butt!! Hell yeah! Keep it up, I love reading your posts about you accomplishing something. 🙂
Erin says
Aww thank you so much girly! I’m trying really hard! 😀
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I need to follow your example and get out there! I have been majorly slacking in my race prep and I find every excuse in the book not to get up in the morning and run. Need to get through it even if it is a ho-hum run. Awesome post! 🙂
Erin says
Aw thank you so much! I’m finding if I don’t accept excuses I make them less and less. Or at least they start to matter a lot less. ;p
Kelly @ Cupcake Kelly's says
Great job Erin! A good shoe store for runners is one of the most valuable tools you can have. I am excited to read about your journey.
Erin says
Thank you so much Kelly! I can’t even believe I’m on a running journey, running used to always be torture for me. But now I am loving it and so excited to see where it will take me!
Kat says
Congrats on your runners high!! Im not much of a runner, but I do get quite the high from a good soccer workout!! I hit the field for speed ladder work and sprints, and after I always feel like a million bucks 🙂
Erin says
Isn’t it the best feeling? That’s so cool your good at soccer! I saw Bend it like Beckham and wanted to be able to play so badly! ;p
Kristin @ My Mission Impossible says
I love when I’m feeling blah and expecting a terrible workout and it turns out just the opposite! You get so proud of yourself for making the good decision to workout! Good for you…p.s. I own NO LuLu (please pity me)
Erin says
Yes! It felt so good and I was so proud because I used to be the one saying no all the time and now I’m saying yes! Oh no, I’m sorry you don’t have Lulu girly, if it doesn’t gross you out I recommend looking for used pieces on ebay, their quality is really worth it in my opinion. I know a lot of people get grossed out by buying used but I buy so many of my clothes used, I get a lot of my Lulu that way. It’s less than half the price and still in great condition!
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
Great job on the run! I always feel like I never experience runner’s high, but I think that I did last weekend after my 6 mile run. And then later on in the afternoon, I felt sooo tired. I hope that’s normal too, haha.
Erin says
Yay! Way to go on the run! Id love to run six miles someday! I’m pretty sure tiredness after that much exertion is normal. ;p
Caroline says
Welcome to the runner’s high. Be careful- it gets addicting! 🙂 Great job on your run. I haven’t gone on a run in about a week because I’ve been sickish for the last few days, and I’m craving a good run! The gym I work out at in the summer has individual tvs and fans on the treadmill, and I love it! Unfortunately the other 9 months I’m not so lucky.
Great job and keep it up!
Erin says
Aw thank you so much! I’m already addicted! And I hope you feel better soon! Being sick is no fun. 🙁
Vanessa @ Project Zen says
Congrats on your first runner’s high! 🙂
I ran a 3.5 in a little less than 45 minutes but we were about the same – that’s still a very good time and I already have a few 5ks ran under my belt. Keep it up!
Erin says
Aw thank you so much! And way to go with running, that’s awesome!
RunInBoise says
Congrats on the run. Those treadmills sound pretty awesome.
Erin says
Thank you, the treadmills at school are awesome!!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
Yay for the runner’s high! You will start craving it no doubt. 🙂
Erin says
I already am! Haha
J. R. Clark says
the first time I run, I had so many excuses…that my legs are weak, that I can’t even move, it’s just normal for a beginner… but congrats you did it…
