So Josh and I have decided to get back to running in a big way. After working out intermittently for the last few weeks and really wanting to kick-start our fall fitness goals we decided to sign up for a race. Jess told me about Omaha’s Corporate Cup 10k and as soon as I heard it benefited the American Lung Association and asthma research I knew Josh would want to be involved as well. Josh has had asthma since he was little and at one point it was really bad. Thankfully it is under control now, but it is still something he will have to live with for the rest of his life. The 10k is this Sunday, September 15th. We’re both so excited. He is my favorite workout buddy and best motivator.
The only thing that worries us? Until Saturday the farthest either of us had run was a 5k. We decided to tackle the distance on Saturday and were very proud that we both survived. We’re planning on another 10k run tonight after work. We’re going to be slow, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be able to cross the finish line come race day. Fingers crossed!
Race fever was contagious and we ended up signing up for two more races this weekend. We’re doing it a bit backwards and doing the 10k in less than a week and then two 5ks later on in the month. That should make the 5ks feel easy, right?
We’re supporting Josh’s new job at Creighton by participating in their Jaywalk 5k on Saturday, September 22nd. It benefits the local Jesuit Academy and is a Creighton tradition. We plan on reppin’ our new blue and white t-shirts at this event!
The last 5k we’re doing this month is the Rundee Dundee. It benefits the Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance which is super important to me as a former unhealthy, overweight kid. It is on Saturday, September 28th and kicks off Dundee’s annual festival. It should be a good time, and you get a pair of undies with your race entry. I won’t be wearing them during the race but they will be a fun souvenir!
And those are our September races. We’re looking forward to them all and are hoping they help us get back in our running groove.
Question of the Day: Are you running any races this month? If so you should enter to win Road Runner Sports 30th Birthday Sweepstakes. They’re giving away $30,000 worth of prizes! I don’t know about you, but that would keep me good on running shoes for a loooong time. I’m crossing my fingers I’ll win some cool new running gear!

That’s awesome that you and Josh are getting into races! My boyfriend ran a half marathon a few months back, but somehow I still can’t seem to get past the 3 mile mark… any tips? I think it’s mostly a mental block.
Great to see you’re doing so well, Erin!
