Winter time is prime movie night time in the Fairchild household. Winter here in Nebraska gets cold and snowy, and when that happens, I look forward to staying in and snuggling up under the blankets with my favorite guy.

Movie Night Chocolate Popcorn Recipe Her Heartland Soul

Last weekend Josh and I were laying low and decided to have a movie night.

Movie Night Chocolate Popcorn Recipe Her Heartland Soul

We headed to Walmart to stock up on our favorites. Sidenote, but how adorable are those mini M&M’S® tubs? I want them all! No movie night is complete without some popcorn, cold soda, and a few sweet treats.

We made this movie night extra special with a little at-home chocolate popcorn recipe. It was super easy to make and tasted great.

Movie Night Chocolate Popcorn Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 bags of Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter Popcorn
  • 12 oz Chocolate Chips
  • 1/4 Cup low fat milk
  • 3oz M&M’S® Chocolate Candies

Recipe

  • Pop the popcorn in the microwave and then transfer to a lined baking sheet to cool.
  • Fill a small saucepan approximately halfway full with water and nest a small metal bowl on top of it. The water should not touch the bottom of the bowl.
  • Bring the water to a boil over medium heat and add the chocolate chips, stir continuously until they begin to melt.
  • Slowly stir in the milk, mixing continuously until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
  • Remove the bowl from the heat and drizzle the chocolate evenly over the popcorn.
  • Sprinkle the popcorn and chocolate with M&M’S®.
  • Place the tray in the freezer for approximately 15 minutes, or until the chocolate sets (the texture should be dense and fudgy).
  • Break into clusters and place in a large bowl, to be enjoyed with a good movie!

Goosebumps Movie Night Her Heartland Soul

Since I am a baby when it comes to scary movies, we opted for a kid-friendly scary flick. Josh was a huge fan of the Goosebumps books growing up, so it was fun to watch this lighthearted thriller. Jack Black did a great job playing R.L.Stine, and I would recommend this movie for kids and adults alike.

I love the salty/sweet combo! Yum! And the drizzled chocolate and m&M’s make it out of this world. I love that you took such ready made ingredients and made something special. I’m also a wimp when it comes to scary movies. I feel like movies should be an escape, and to me that’s usually something light and funny.
