As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to become more meaningful and intentional with my purchases. Not just so that I buy better quality, but so that what I buy means something to me. It’s very easy to acquire a lot of stuff. It’s not so easy to cultivate belongings that evoke emotions and memories. That takes time and a lot of patience (The latter has never been my strong suit!).

One of the most sentimental items a women can own is jewelry. Every time I look at my wedding ring it makes me smile. It takes me back to that unexpected June night over five years ago (!!) when I arrived at Josh’s apartment frazzled and stressed after a long day at my summer internship and was greeted with the best surprise.
As Josh and I have started our life and made new memories together, we’ve added more mementos along the way to cherish and celebrate. I’ve gifted Josh a watch, he’s surprised me with an engraved bracelet.
Here in Omaha, our very favorite place to shop for jewelry and special gifts is Borsheims. Borsheims is over 140 years old and one of the largest independent jewelers in the world. I love that their stores have something for every style and budget and that that they make shopping such a fun experience.

Borsheims recently invited me to a special event with jewelry designer Monica Rich Kosann. If you haven’t heard of her before, her work is carried nationally in stores like Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodmans and she won the Rising Star Award for fine jewelry in 2010.
I was able to meet Monica in person and learn about the inspiration behind her pieces. She shared with me her love of all things vintage and her belief that every woman possesses stories she yearns to share and express. She seeks to instill that sentimentality in her work, which is why a lot of her collections involve things like lockets, charm bracelets, keys, and poesy rings.

For my very first Monica Rich Kosann piece, I selected a pocket watch key necklace. I love this piece so much because it signifies to me that I possess the key to my own destiny. Whatever I want to achieve in this life is entirely up to me. At the end of the day I hold the key to my success. And that is quite a powerful thing.
Thanks to Borsheims for partnering with me on this post and introducing me to the Monica Rich Kossan line.

I guess I never thought about the person who creates the jewelry. What a talent and a gift. I love the piece you picked and your reason for it.

I love the knit sweater/leather jacket combo – one of my favorites to wear in fall before it gets too cold! I’m trying to be more intentional in my shopping habits, too – not buying into fast fashion is a major thing I’m trying out. It’s tempting because it’s cheap and trendy, but it doesn’t result in pieces that last tiny our closet for years to come!

Absolutely beautiful pieces, thanks for sharing! I totally agree; the older I get, the more intentional I am – especially with money. I would rather invest in quality pieces than a bunch of garbage that I’ll have to throw away after it turns my skin green. My favorite piece of jewelry is a diamond necklace my grandma left me when she passed <3 xo
