Junkstock Shopping

October 14, 2013 8 Comments

Omaha has so many amazing traditions. This weekend Josh and I discovered my favorite one so far.

It’s called Junkstock and the theme is peace love and junk. It’s one giant garage sale. If every garage sale was put on by professional store vendors that sell old stuff you actually want to decorate your house with instead of  the normal stuff you find at garage sales.

It was so much fun to walk around and take in all the decorations.

There was live music. I wish I could remember the name of this band, they were awesome and playing my favorite songs. There was also a kettle corn truck. I’m pretty sure my day was made.

How awesome are these? It’s my apartment manager’s booth. She’s the one who told me about this event and I’m so glad she did. Josh and I are really tempted to order an F for a picture wall I’m envisioning.

I kind of love these. haha

We ended up finding the most amazing cedar chest. It is weathered and rustic looking on the outside while perfect condition cedar on the inside. And it was only $60! We were very thankful for the “junk hunks” to haul it into our car. I was so proud of our little Fit for fitting it! Junkstock is going to be an annual trip for us, I love that you never know what you will find.

We also found a little box made from reclaimed barn wood that we’re using for a keybox in our entryway. We put it out along with some fall decorations we just picked up from Pier 1. I’m so excited to be decorating for our all of our first holidays as a married couple!

We picked up a seasonal welcome mat.

And we had a little home DIY project to make this centerpiece. I love how it came out.

This weekend we also tackled unwrapping our pictures. We still have a lot of decorating to do but we made a ton of progress. I can’t wait to have a housewarming party once we’re all done!

Questions of the Day: Does your town have something like Junkstock? Do you like antique shopping?

Decorating for fall is so much fun! Looks like you guys are doing a great job!
We don’t have a “Junk” fest per say, but we do have an annual Harvest Festival full of craft vendors. I haven’t gone in such a while though. ( After you’ve been married for a few years you seem to accumulate more stuff than you actually need)!

[…] Junkstock is an amazing thing that happens in Omaha twice a year. It’s a time for artists to get together and sell their “junk”. It’s held on a big farm in West Omaha and has food trucks and music on top of all the shopping. […]
