I feel like I blinked and this weekend was over. It was such a wonderful weekend that flew by way too quickly. It started out the way weekends usually do :
I picked up groceries.
I got gas. And did a little happy dance when I saw how cheap it was. When I interned for Enterprise and was long distance from Josh I drove all the time. Those miles added up into big gas bills that were really felt on my college student budget. It’s still ingrained in me to monitor those numbers really closely.
After the typical gas and grocery run for the week (I’m seriously 45) a very special person arrived in Omaha: my dad!! He is visiting with us for a few days and I could not be happier to see him. I’ve missed him like crazy. When I was a kid everything seemed so permanent in life. It only later occurred to me that I might not always live near my parents. It was so fun to spend a weekend showing him around all the places Josh and I have discovered within the last two months. The weather definitely put a damper on a lot of our plans (50 degrees and raining… not fun) but we made the most of it and have been really enjoying our time together.
We went to the Joslyn Castle and had fun touring the house and exploring the grounds.
It was really beautiful.
We checked out local farmers markets and enjoyed looking at all the fall themed goodies.
We also walked around the Lake Walk at Con Agra. They have such a pretty campus with great views of the city.
Of course we had to do a lot of eating. My dad loved Old Market and trying Vivace for pasta and Ted and Wally’s for ice cream. Ted and Wally’s is featuring pumpkin spice ice cream right now, it is crazy good.
We went to La Mesa for Mexican. It was so tasty.
We tried Amatos for a breakfast after hearing it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and were sorely disappointed. The waitress was so nice but their famous ricotta pancakes were super bland and boring. They were supposed to be pumpkin and ricotta flavored and none of that came through for me. If this was a $5 meal I wouldn’t really mind the lack of flavor, but if I’m paying $9 for two pancakes I want them to be delicious. These, sadly, were not.
Something that never disappoints? Jones Bros Cupcakes. This toffee cappuccino crunch was out of this world good. I think it may have replaced red velvet as my new favorite cupcake. This is big doings.
Even though the weekend is over I’m glad I still have a few more days with my dad. I’m off to go get a good nights sleep so I have energy for the upcoming days.

I’m so happy your dad had a nice visit! Looks like y’all kept super busy. 🙂 Too bad the weather wasn’t optimal; I sure know it wasn’t conducive to outdoor activities. I’m sad to read that Amato’s pancakes didn’t live up to the hype. They’ve been on my must-try list for a while, and after reading this they may stay that way.
Last weekend was more notable for me: Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Devil’s Tour, etc. This weekend has been full of baseball (Go Braves!), football (Go Pack!), baking (whipped up some raspberry chocolate brownies), and eating (Saigon Surface for dinner, Pizza King yesterday for pizza at Mom & Dad’s). I have a few busy weeks ahead, so I’ve been soaking up some of these things before work once again takes over.

The weekend with your dad sounds awesome. Taking the Lake Walk would have been a must if I ever visited the city, too – it looks wonderful. I hope you’re still enjoying your time with each other – maybe with some nicer weather, too.
The highlight of my weekend was meeting a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and who’s about to move soon. We just talked for hours sitting in a nice litte café.
Haha, that’s incredible about the gas price. I just checked because we calculate the price in litres not gallons but … that’d equal about 0.60 € per litre while it’s actually about 1.60 € around here :D. Funny how that works.

Looks like a great weekend! I spent the weekend with my parents too (they only live 30 minutes away) and I cherish every minute I get with them!

Oh no a DDD fail! Guy Fieri is usually spot-on but I guess he can’t be perfect 😉 That cupcake looks amazing though and it sounds like it made up for the not-so-great pancakes!
