Friday Five 31

September 5, 2014 18 Comments

Happy Friday! I hope you guys had a great short workweek and that you have a fun weekend planned. Here’s what I’m loving this Friday:

1. CVS stops selling cigarettes and walks away from 2 billion dollars annually. <— This makes me so happy. Smoking is one of my soap box issues. There are so many horrible cancers and diseases that we have no control over. Why choose to expose yourself to preventable cancers and diseases? Don’t smoke. Period.

2. How cute is this tea mug? I got it from Teavana recently and love how there’s a removable strainer inside. I’ve been enjoying drinking my nightly cup of blueberry bliss and pineapple kona pop out of it.

3. Have you heard about the greatest hoodie ever made? I love that a company is making American-made garments with a focus on quality and craftsmanship. The hoodie was actually designed by an ex-Apple engineer who rethought every aspect of a traditional hoodie design. It’s a garment that is meant to last for decades and get better with age, like old American-made products used to do. I’m totally buying one of these American Giant hoodies.

4. I’m turning 24 two weeks from today! In honor of a random and fun birthday year I decided to have a random and fun birthday party! The theme is “avocado-rrific”. 😉 Josh and I are making a smorgasbord of food for our friends. All the food will contain avocados in some way, shape or form. It’s a fun challenge, and I love that it incorporates one of my all-time favorite foods!

Unfortunately by the time I thought up the idea for this party there was not enough time to order invitations. Enter: the Target stationary section! I really want to be a crafty person. As evidenced by my made-with-love invitations, it is not a skill I am particularly gifted with. But I try really hard. 😀

5. University of Nebraska Medical Center is treating a Doctor with the Ebola virus. While it is somewhat scary to think of ebola being so close to home, I am so proud of UNMC for taking the care of this man’s life into their hands and the attention it will bring to Omaha. When Josh and I first found out we were moving to Omaha concerned family members asked what the medical care could possibly be like in the Midwest. The answer: some of the best in the country.

Questions of the Day: What are you loving this Friday? Have you ever had a themed birthday party as an adult? What is one of your soap-box issues?

I saw that about CVS and I absolutely love it, too. First step to seeing them go away, I hope!

That hoodie is news to me and I love the looks of it. Need to track one down!

How fun that you’re having a party like that. I think all adults should do it, don’t you? Why should kids have all the fun? ; )

I used to hate tea but now I love it! It’s weird how our likes and dislikes change over time!

I am totally excited that CVS has took a stand against the tobacco industry! Hopefully it leads to other companies following suit. Number 5 is of course my favorite this week! UNMC has some of the top physicians and surgeons in the world! Pretty amazing! Eek and cheers to your 24th birthday being so soon! Yay! 🙂

Sometimes I forget that people still smoke–I mean why? It just seems like something older people do? Anyways…I love that teacup! And earlier this summer we were talking with missionaries in Nigeria about going there for a short term mission trip in the winter. Now a couple people at their organization have been diagnosed with Ebola. 🙁 It’s so heartbreaking and scary! (Needless to say, we are postponing the trip indefinitely!)

Yeah unfortunately it seems like something a lot of people still do in the Midwest. So gross.

I hope Ebola is controlled soon! It’s scary how many people are being affected in some countries.
