Last night Josh and I got to attend a pretty cool event.
We got to meet Robin Sorensen, the co-founder of Firehouse Subs. I had not heard of Firehouse subs before this event and thought they were local to Omaha. During his talk I found out Firehouse Subs opened in Jacksonville, FL (I used to live there!) and has over 660 locations. I felt a little silly. ;p They reached out to bloggers in the local community to invite them to learn more about the company.
I got to try the turkey sub as we learned about how involved Robin and his brother Chris started the business and how inrvolved they are in the business to this day. They go to every food photo shoot, are involved with every aspect of the decision making, and really care about the future of their company. They are also incredibly passionate about using quality ingredients in their food. This sub was seriously amazing. From the bread to the meat to the cheese it was so tasty.
I thought I was done but then a chicken sandwich appeared before my eyes. (They brought out veggie ones for Josh.) While I was eating this one Robin mentioned that next year they are rolling out the Hearty and Tasty under 500 calories sub line. I am really looking forward to that because I was definitely eating more than I typically like to for a Monday night meal, as delicious as it was. ;p
Speaking of things I don’t usually drink, Firehouse Subs commissioned Coke to make a Cherry Limeaid just for them! I knew I had to try it and am so glad I did. It was really good.
How cute are the hotsauce bottles? Both Robin and Chris were firefighters and donate heavily to causes firefighters support. They believe in First Responders so much they started a foundation to raise money for them.
Just when I thought I couldn’t eat another delicious bite, local franchise owner Tom Davis came around with warm desserts. He was very sweet to pose for a picture so I could document my experience for you guys. 😀 I had some of the s’mores brownie and chocolate chip cookie and they were awesome. Josh loved the lemon cookie on the end.
Afterward I got to get a picture with Robin and talk about Jacksonville a little bit. The mural behind us is unique to the Omaha store. Every Firehouse Subs franchise gets to work with an artist picked by Robin and Chris to design a large scale painting for them. The burning building in the photo was the most luxurious building in Omaha back in the day, when a spilled candle started a massive fire. Because the fire company was volunteer at that time the building burned to the ground. It was this fire that prompted Omaha to create a full-time fire company. I thought that was such a cool back story.
It was great to get to see some of my favorite Omaha bloggers (and friends)! We all got super cool fire buckets filled with goodies as the night ended that Joanna and I posed with.
Question of the Day: Have you eaten at Firehouse Subs before? Are you a fan?
