Cheese and Cocktails with Friends {Giveaway!}

June 5, 2012 37 Comments

I hope everyone is having a good start to their week! I’ve been having a really good one, its just been busy. I’m sorry the reveal of the Earthies giveaway winner is a day late, but Pennsylvania has been having some crazy storms lately and on Sunday it was raining so bad I decided to stay at Josh’s until Monday morning and then wake up at 4:45 and head straight to work. By the time I got home from work last night at 6:30pm I was dead tired and decided to call it a night early. But without any further excuses, the winner of the Earthies shoe giveaway is Katie from Wish and Whimsy. Congrats Katie!! Please email your address to [email protected] along with your shoe size! I hope you love them!

This weekend was such a fun one, I’ve been looking forward to getting to share it with you guys. And I also have another giveaway for you today so keep reading to find out what it is! (Hint: Its delicious!)

Getting to Josh’s was a bit of an adventure this weekend. My dad told me as I left Friday to be careful in the rain. I wasn’t worried because I drive in the rain all the time, but a half an hour into the drive I was white knuckling the steering wheel and praying that my car made it safe. Water was coming down so hard and so fast I couldn’t see in front of my car and tree branches were blowing across the highway. The wind was so strong and there was so much water it was flowing across the highway. I was so so happy and relieved when I made it to Josh’s okay.

To celebrate I picked up some Chipotle. It was so yummy. And even better than the food was getting to see Josh. I’ve really missed him. We had such a fun weekend together. We saw Men in Black 3 together, it was so good! We also had a ton of amazing food, is anyone surprised? Josh and I love to eat. 😀

Veggie quiche with pretzel chips and hummus.

Cho with bananas and oatmeal.

The most amazing veggie panini from Legends. We actually ordered this twice this past weekend. We’re such creatures of habit.

The first time we were good and got side salads. Mmm artichoke and peppers.

The second time we were bad and got beer battered fries. Omg they were amazing.

We also did something this weekend that involved an adorable cheese knife.

As well as Josh’s homemade blackberry syrup.

And teeny tiny little forks.

We hosted a game night with crackers and cheese and mixed drinks! Josh and I were so excited for this. We both love hosting events and  what night isn’t better with some friends and good food involved?

The party started at seven so we figured most people would have probably eaten but would still be snackish. We bought a sharp cheddar, a goat cheese, and a cheddar aged in vinegar for our friends to munch on while we hung out. Knowing how much I love cheese you would think the star of this platter would be the cheese, but that would be wrong. Don’t get me wrong, the cheese was amazing, but the most delicious thing in this picture was the crackers.

Omg the crackers. About a week ago I was contacted by Daelia’s Biscuits for Cheese, a company who set out to create products to enhance the experience of eating cheese. Talk about a good mission statement! They had noticed all the cheese loving going on on this blog and wondered if I would be interested in reviewing their products and offering a giveaway to you guys. I’ll take any reason to eat more cheese and love hosting giveaways so I said yes. I have to admit, I thought I would like the biscuits, there are very few bad tasting carbs in this world, but I was not expecting to absolutely LOVE them like I did.

The biscuits are so full of flavor, with huge pieces of nuts and fruit. They also have such a great texture and taste. They’re sweet without being overly sweet, and they’re crunchy without being dry. They’re all natural, with no added fat or salt, no cholesterol, and no trans fat. The ingredients list is all clean, all simple, and all whole foods. That’s probably why besides online and in specialty cheese shops they are available nationwide at Whole Foods. Oh how I wish I had that store by me! Their three current flavors are almond with raisin, pumpkin seed with rye, and hazelnut with fig. They all come with suggestions of what cheeses they will pair best with but they are all amazing. Seriously, you cant go wrong putting any kind of cheese on any of these biscuits, or like I found myself doing during the party, snacking on some biscuits by themselves! Josh and I tried all the flavors before the party started and had the hardest time stopping so that the guests would have some to eat too.

And eat they did! Josh and I had to refill the biscuits and cut up more cheese twice, until there was none left! Every guest absolutely raved about them. Pierce (pictured above with his wife Lily) remarked how it was the complete cheese eating experience. He was saying how he loves to enjoy cheese with fruit and nuts and carbs and this was that all bundled into one. If you are looking for a new party food to serve or just a new snack for yourself I cannot recommend these enough. I love them so much I told Josh we need to order them for all our future parties. They’re just that good.

Our six guests all gave the biscuits big thumbs up! We had the best time snacking and playing games and enjoying some of Josh’s amazing cocktails. I was so happy the party was a success. We played games until almost 2am! Josh and I can’t wait to host another party again soon! We’ll definitely be serving some of Daelia’s Biscuits for Cheese at it!

To win your own box of Daelia’s Biscuits for Cheese (which if this review isn’t glowing enough, trust me, you really want to do) simply leave a comment on this post telling me what flavor you would be most excited to try and what you would pair it with.

The contest is open until Thursday, June 7 at 11:59 pm. The winner will be announced in Friday’s blog post and will win two packages of each flavor, for a total of six packages of biscuits!

Next time you guys go to Legends try the Harvest salad. I love it, I get it everytime I go now (which is pretty often, haha). Its greens with candied walnuts, apple slices, a huge chunk of blue cheese and a really good vinagrette-type dressing. 🙂

Yes I’ve gotten that before!! Omg that salad is amazing! If we’re think of the same one ( https://herheartlandsoul.com/?p=1448 I took a picture of it here) its one of my favorite salads ever. I think Legends is one of State College’s best kept secrets! And most affordable eateries for the high quality food you get.

Exciting!!! I love cheese and could eat almost any variation of it every day, every meal, for the rest of my life, lol. My fave cheese is a semi-soft sheep’s milk cheese, so I’d prob pair it with that… or you know, just stuff them in my mouth by themselves, haha. I’m classy like that 😉
