Something really cool about Omaha that you may not know: we’re one of the major test markets for companies before products are launched nationally.
We got Taco Bell breakfast long before the rest of the country. While I’ve never tried it, a lot of my friends are big fans. More exciting to me: Blue Bunny is testing out dairy free ice cream made with almond milk here! I mean hello ice cream! That is something to get excited about!
Made with almond milk and natural flavors, these ice creams are cholesterol-free, contain healthy fats and are an excellent source of calcium. We gotta look out for our bones! 😀 Blue Bunny’s Dairy Free ice cream is available in 16 ounce containers in the following four flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Mocha Fudge and Mint Chocolate Chip. They all sounded good, but when I was at the store the Mocha Fudge and Mint Chocolate Chip called my name.
Check out those ribbons of fudge. I wasn’t sure what to expect with almond ice cream, but dug in and found that it tasted like ice cream. It was chocolate-y, smooth, and rich just like the standard dairy-based fare.
We all have things we struggle with in life. Thankfully food intolerance is not one of my struggles. Aside from choosing not to eat red meat or pork for health reasons, my body can handle any food I feed it. While I looked at this product as a fun new dessert to try to potentially supplement my dairy-based ice cream cravings, I realize there are people out there who cannot eat dairy and alternatives like this one are their only option to enjoy foods everyone else takes for granted.
If you are not able or choose not to eat dairy but still want ice cream, you’re in luck. Blue Bunny Dairy Free gives you the ability to indulge without it feeling like you’re settling, or enjoying second best. And if you’re a dairy eater that just wants to enjoy some good ice cream with subtle hints of almond in every bite, you’re in luck too!
Cheers to good ice cream for all!
Blue Bunny Dairy Free is available in select markets across the country. In Omaha it can be found at Fareway, HyVee, and No Frills Supermarket. If you’re wondering if Blue Bunny Dairy Free is available in your neck of the woods use this store locator to find out. Fingers crossed it will be available across the country super soon!

They’re so good! Are they offered in KC?

I had no idea about Omaha getting Taco bell breakfast first! I’m in CB, but that’s close enough that we should be included. 😉

It’s really good! I was surprised it tasted so similar to ice cream! I guess I don’t know what I was expecting! Haha
Molly says
I would definitely try Almond Milk ice cream! That is all we drink in our house – I even converted Brian! They need to make a chocolate chip cookie dough version, but in the mean time I wouldn’t say “no” to that mint chocolate chip one.
Erin says
Chocolate chip cookie dough is my favorite ice cream! This almond milk ice cream would taste soo good in that flavor!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says

Mint Chip is my go-to! Blue Bunny is made in my hometown, I had no idea they were doing a dairy free ice cream. Can’t wait to give it a try!
Erin says
It’s so good!! Do you know if you can tour the plant in your hometown? I have a friend that really wants to do that!
Jamie | Jamie's Recipes says
Erin I know plant tours do happen for certain groups. I don’t think they do individual plant tours though. Maybe an Omaha blogger plant tour should happen 🙂 They have a GREAT old fashioned ice cream parlor in downtown LeMars to enjoy some cold treats after the tour.
fashionillustrationsbymc says
Are they ever gonna sell them in Italy? 😉
http://fashionillustrationsbymc.altervista.org/
Erin says
That would be awesome! But I’m pretty sure you guys have some delicious ice cream of your own over there!! 😀
Ashley says
OMG I’ve always wanted to try some good dairy-free ice cream! Will be looking for this asap!
And I also appreciate that you refrain from red meat and pork — I’m a pescatarian for health reasons so it’s nice to know other bloggers who opt for similar lifestyles!

Erin says
It’s good stuff! And yeah, I truly feel there’s no one right way to eat since every body is so different and unique but this is what works for me!
Shannyn @ Frugal Beautiful says
Those look so good! Really cool that you get to test so many things before they’re launched nationally.
Erin says
Yet another awesome thing about Omaha! I love living here!!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
Yesssss this is great news. I love ice cream but dairy and I don’t get along too well. I will eat it every now and then but try to avoid it most days. This will save the day!
Erin says
It’s such good stuff!! Is it available in your neighborhood?
Bobi says
I would’ve chosen the same two! I love me some mocha and chocolate of every kind. As a mother of a child with celiac disease it warms my heart anytime food manufacturers add something to their line up to make life more “normal” for those who need it. Good on you, Blue Bunny!
Erin says
I love how mainstream foods for restricted diets is getting! I’m sure it’s helping a lot of people!!
Bobi says
I tweeted :). Tweet Tweet!

I love fresh peach ice cream, dulce de leche, and coffee ice cream. I would love to try almond milk ice cream–because I love almond milk (I don’t actually drink dairy milk). We’ve had nice weather yesterday and today. No fog or rain here in beautiful Oregon!
Erin says
Yay for beautiful weather in Oregon! This almond milk ice cream is really yummy!
Natalie J Vandenberghe says
It was 86 yesterday! It’s supposed to be that warm today, also; however, it doesn’t look very nice outside right now. Some Blue Bunny Dairy Free would certainly be refreshing! Hope you have a nice weekend!

My husband switched to as almond milk a few years ago because it’s lower in fat and he likes the taste. I bet he would love the ice cream too. It sounds really good and creamy and a great alternative for those who can’t have dairy.

My favorite ice cream flavor is ginger. The only time I could find it was in speciality ice cream shops while vacationing in Maine. I must say though that the mocha fudge flavor sounds very appealing and I love anything with an almond flavor. I certainly would try almond milk ice cream. I love ice cream year round. It probably would not be considered ice cream weather in Omaha today, but even when we have our bitter cold winter days I have ice cream.
I love your cute little kitty caricature!
Erin says
Hopefully today is much better weather in Omaha! I love ginger ice cream too! You’re right though, it can be hard to find in most stores!
Chantal says
This looks so good! I am trying to cut back on dairy so this would be perfect! Thanks for joining the Link-It To Me Link Up Party this week, looking forward to seeing you again next week!
Erin says
Absolutely! I hope you had a wonderful weekend Chantal!

I was obviously meant to find your blog for this ice cream alone. I haven’t had a lick of dairy in 6 months because I’m nursing and my baby has an allergy to milk protein. I’ve managed(just barely) but now that summer is almost here my ice cream craving is in full swing. I must eat this soon!!
