So I did something pretty cool the other day.
I went to
the casino and gambled for the first time! The place I interned this summer has turned into a part time job and I am so happy for the opportunity. I work with seriously awesome people, am learning a ton, and am making some money for that wedding I have coming up next year. ;p At work we have goals that we are encouraged to make every month. If you are one of the top performing employees for the month that makes their goals and does well you get treated to some seriously awesome perks. Like getting paid to go to a casino for the day and have fun!
We all met up at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes Barre, PA. Josh has told me all about their parent casino, the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, so I was really excited to get to see what it was like.
It was so pretty. As soon as we got there we headed over to get our electronic cards. All the first time players like myself got a free $10 to spend on slot machines. Since I only brought $30 to gamble with that was quite the free gift! In case you couldn’t tell on here I’m not a huge risk taker. I like my money where I can see it, collecting interest in a bank. ;p
There were so many lights and noises and cool things to see. It was definitely a very pretty casino. The one thing I wish it had was a better distinction between the smoking and non-smoking sections. I’m really sensitive to cigarette smoke, I don’t know why but it always gives me headaches. The casino was really well ventilated though so I barely noticed it.
For lunch we all went to Bar Louie which I thought was really cute. We had a lot of fun catching up and talking. I feel really lucky to work with such nice people.
I got a veggie wrap with goat cheese and a side of fries. It was really good!
After eating it was time to get our gambling on! I made sure to grab my awesome personalized lanyard. At first I was really overwhelmed with all the game options there were, and realized pretty quickly I have no idea to gamble. I was playing the penny slots to make my $10 last and I quickly realized that is not the way to make money. But I had a really fun time playing! 😀 After that we headed over to the table games which is where the real excitement is. Some of the group started playing games that involved gestures and words that made it seem like I was watching a movie in a foreign language. When it comes to casinos I’ve got a lot of learning to do. We headed over to the blackjack tables after a while and that is where I found my gambling niche. The table had a minimum $10 bet and we had so much fun playing a few rounds. And hey, I left $20 richer! I’ll take it! 😀
I’d love to get to go back sometime and play more blackjack. It was a really nice casino and such a fun day off from work. If you’re in the area I definitely recommend stopping by.
Question of the Day: What game is your favorite game at a casino? Are you a good gambler or a bad one? I’d say I’m a bad one because I don’t take risks or like to play high stakes. But I still have fun!

too funny! I live on the MS gulf coast and we have tons of casinos. They have good buffets so we like to go eat there. 🙂
Erin says
Omg I need to go to a buffet! Haha I wonder if there’s any vegetarian all you can eat buffets?

Looks like a lot of fun. I’ve only been in a casino once in Vegas…not a big gambler, I guess 😉

How fun! I’m going to Vegas in January and I’m so excited, but not really for the gambling. I want to see a show and go on a gondola. And play a few hands of black jack.

I love to play blackjack when I go! It gets so exciting sometimes. I’ve only gone to the Sands (in Bethlehem!) and down to Atlantic City, but it was fun both times! And I didn’t lose all of my money. 🙂
Erin says
It does get exciting playing blackjack! It’s definitely my casino game of choice. And way to go not loosing all your money! That’s a win! Did you like Atlantic City? I’ve never been.

As I was reading this I was thinking, “blackjack, blackjack,” so I was glad to see you gave it a try. I love it, though I haven’t played for years. I prefer the $2 table (does that show how long it’s been?)
I find Indian casinos don’t generally have as good ventilation systems as Vegas casinos. While I don’t get headaches, I instantly get stuffed up and have a hard time breathing. Two open areas side by side should not be smoking and non smoking sections!
Erin says
I completely agree! I’m so glad to hear it’s different in Vegas! I can’t even imagine what it’s like there! Everyone says that city is indescribable.

How fun!! I rarely go to casinos, but when I do, I will only play penny or nickel slots…I am such a cheap person!! But I did win $60 on a nickel machine once on my first round! 🙂
Erin says
I’m cheap too! haha Oh nice, congrats on that win!!
