One of the hardest things about living far away from family is missing out on celebrating life’s milestones together. Birthdays and holidays are different when you can’t celebrate them with family. It’s amazing how much you take that time together for granted as a little kid and when you live nearby your loved ones. At least I did.
Recently my dad turned 62, but because he’s half a country away, we were not able to celebrate in person. When he came to visit earlier this month Josh and I were excited to throw a little belated birthday celebration for him.
There’s few things we love more than sweets and seeing movies together. My dad is where I got my sweet tooth from. And our movie adventures have run the gamut from Band of Brothers, to Twilight, to Up, to The Notebook, to Despicable Me. I miss our Father-Daughter lunch and movie dates so much.
When I was given the opportunity by Walmart to pick out a Hallmark Minion card for a loved one, I laughed at what perfect timing it was. My relationship with my dad is sweet, silly, and fun, just like the Minions! I knew he’d love one of these cards!
I picked out this one because Bob is my favorite character and he carries his bear everywhere like I used to carry my stuffed duck, Mr. Puff, when I was little (Is this sharing too much from my walk down memory lane? haha). I have a feeling Bob is going to become a toy for one of my dad’s new kittens… 😉
In an age where everything is virtual, it means a lot to me to give and receive handwritten cards.
Especially to the guy who has supported and loved me from my very first moment on Earth.
It may have been a little late, but this birthday celebration was a very special one to me. Here’s hoping for more celebrations together in person!

Such a special bond! I know exactly what you mean regards to it kind of (okay it does!) sucking being so far away from your family. My dad & I too have an extremely close relationship. What can I say, I’m a daddy’s girl! Although it wasn’t on his actual birthday, I’m happy the two of you were able to celebrate together.

Minions are so cute figures! I like handwritten cards, and specially if inside it is some interesting quote or music!

What great time spent with your dad!:) I don’t get to see mine very often since we move last winter so I’m always happy to give gifts and sweets, (my dad is a chef, and he’s where I got my baking bug from, so I always make him treats!) I’m a HUGE minion fan! It’s kindof embarrassing but whatever, it’s always fun to be a kid at heart right??:) Thanks for sharing!

I love hand written cards, though sadly I don’t send them out to friends/family very often. I should be better about that. But the way, I love Minions characters and this card is so stinkin’ cute! That throwback picture is awesome!
