I didn’t expect to take a week long hiatus from blogging but I’m very glad I did. Josh’s parents came to visit the Friday before last and left yesterday. It was so great getting to see them. We’ve missed them a lot. We traveled all over Omaha to show them our favorite places and discovered some new ones along the way.
Our first point of business when they got here was to go to Dixie Quicks to celebrate a very special guy’s birthday! Josh turned 29! I can’t believe how fast time flies. It’s crazy to think I met him when he was 25! He’s changed my life in the best possible way and I am thankful for every single day I have with him. I’m excited for us to be celebrating his 92nd birthday many, many years from now!
After breakfast we did something Josh and I hadn’t yet done since moving to Omaha: we visited the zoo! The Omaha zoo is incredible, we spent the day there and still didn’t see everything. Of course we made time to see the penguins though. They’re so cute! 😀
Speaking of cute, I love this picture of John and Debbie.
We’re such an attractive couple. ;p
I love this one of us. haha Josh and I are considering a zoo membership so we can go all the time. There may or may not be a 3D penguin movie playing there that I really want to see. 😀
We all went to the second annual Culinary Conference at the Omaha Public Library. It was an all day affair with food, giveaways, and great speakers. We learned so much about the incredible local food offerings here in Omaha. There was a particularly awesome session on the many benefits and uses of honey.
I’ve since become kind of obsessed with putting it on everything!
We went to a craft fair and saw lots of local vendor exhibits.
Ate delicious pizza from Pitch.
Introduced them to the wonderfulness that is Jones Bros. (And ECreamery, but I forgot to snap a picture of that.)
John and Debbie stopped by my office and surprised me flowers. I had fun showing them around the building and introducing them to my co-workers. Afterwards they took me out for a delicious Italian lunch.
We ended the week with the best breakfast I’ve ever had at Wheatfields. Creme brulee waffles. Oh my yum.
It felt weird to not be blogging for a week but it also felt nice to not be glued to a computer screen while they were here. I felt like I got to soak up a lot of quality time with them playing Dominos, going shopping with Debbie, and drinking a beer with John. I’m so lucky to have the in-laws I do. If only Connecticut wasn’t so far away!
Question of the Day: What was the highlight of your weekend?
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
I LOVE Pitch and Wheatfield’s! I haven’t been to Dixie Quicks yet, but that will definitely be happening! I’m glad you finally made it to the zoo. It really is awesome :).

We have to go to Dixie Quicks! Maybe not this weekend but the one after that?
Miz says
oooh HONEY.
I have had horrrrible allergies since our move and everyone is reminding me to get the local honey.
that it will help.
did they talk about that?
Erin says
Yes! She talked about how honey can help allergies, sinuses, and head colds. It was really interesting. We bought her book called The Honey Connoisseur, where she talks about all that in more detail. We didn’t really buy it for that part of the book though, but more of the honey recipes! 😀

Sometimes we all need a little break from blogs, computers and just technology in general. I hope you at least enjoyed your week “away”! So fun to see the photos and it looks like you got a lot accomplished. Hopefully your in-laws fell in love with the area. 🙂

I love reading your blog because you go to so many awesome restaurants that I have yet to try! I’ve never even heard of Dixie Quicks or Pitch but they are definitely on my list of places now! I didn’t know you hadn’t been to the zoo yet, it’s awesome! My favorites are the penguins too 🙂 Glad you had an awesome week!

I too am a big fan of honey-great in oatmeal, smoothies, on toast, in sandwiches, on a spoon . . . Looks like you had a great week! My weekend was fantastic. My mom was here for a visit and we got to spend some great mother daughter time together!
