I feel like I’ve told you guys before about how much of a bookworm I am. I’m not sure I mentioned that I am also a book addict. When I find a book I really like, I simply cannot put it down. I’m talking stay up all night reading, download the audio to listen to while I’m in the shower and driving, and read every possible interview/recap/ opinion piece on said book. I don’t fall head over heels for every book that I read. It has to be really special. When it happens though, oh man, I am a goner.
The Selection Series is one of those really special series. I fell down the rabbit hole reading and didn’t come up for air until I read all three books and subsequent novella.
In case you’re wondering what the plot is, here is the description of the first book, The Selection:
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
It’s part fantasy, part dystopian fiction, part reality TV show. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough wondering how the story would play out and what would happen to the main characters I had come to care so much about. I finished the last book so happy with the story, but so sad that my rollercoaster of a reading ride was over.
Imagine my shock when Clever Girls tells me there’s a campaign to promote the upcoming followup to The Selection Series called The Heir that’s coming out May 5th. Uhhh, say what?! Have I been living under a rock? How did I miss this news?! All I can say is sign me up! And thank goodness I know so I don’t make any plans that day! 😀
If you’re looking for a summer series I highly recommend this one. It’s light, it’s fluffy, and it’s fun. To celebrate The Heir coming out in May, I want to send my personal set of The Selection Series to a lucky reader. It is the first 3 books and short novella book. I’ve already read and loved the books. They’re not doing anyone any good sitting on a bookshelf collecting dust. So if you would like to win the set just answer one of my questions of the day! I’ll pick a winner on Monday! 🙂
Questions of the Day: Are you a bookworm? Have you read The Selection? What is a book that totally sucked you in?
I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

I am such a sucker for a good book series! I love not being able to think about anything else, but getting home to reading your book. It’s actually been awhile since I felt that way about a book, so I’m in the market for something new. I might have to look into this!

i haven’t read the section but it sounds like something I would very much enjoy. I got sucked into the divergent series like you’re describing with this series!
Erin says
Oh man I LOVED the Divergent series!! So embarrassing to admit but I cried for legit like three hours after reading the last book. If you liked that series you would love this one!

I am a total bookworm. I haven’t read this series but it sounds like one that would suck me in. I tend to fall for the typical popular series – Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent, and (embarrassingly) Twilight. I am currently venturing out of my typical reading material and reading a book (textbook, actually) about the budgets of the world’s poorest people and how (literally, it breaks down the different budgeting and saving mechanisms) people live on $1 a day.
Erin says
Knowing you and what you like to read you would love this series!! That textbook sounds crazy, but really educational! Definitely something that will make you feel grateful while you read.
Stephanie @ Athlete at Heart says
I’m a total bookworm! I go in spurts of reading nonstop for a few months and then not as much. I’m working on the 2015 reading challenge to read 52 books using a list of prompts. I am definitely reading this series now!
Erin says
I hope you love it!! I’m such a big fan! 😀

I made it my new years resolution to read 10 books in 2015 – a small goal, because I really haven’t made the time to read for a while. Needless to say, I have read 15 already this year! and part of that is because I have found some awesome books to get sucked into! So regardless of if I win this giveway or not I will be adding this series to my GoodReads so I remember to dive into it soon! Thanks for the book recc!
Erin says
Way to go on all that reading!! You will love this series! It’s a really good one!
Nicole says
I am a huge bookworm. I have never heard of this series! A series that totally sucked me in was Experiment in Terror by Karina Halle. The first book of the series was free on Kindle and I was hooked from there.
Excited to discover a new author. Thanks for sharing.
Erin says
Ohh I will have to check that series out! I’m always looking for good ones!

I’ve heard such good things about these books. I love easy reads like this for vacation. I got sucked into Still Alice lately, a little more heavy but such a good book.
Sarah says
I am a book worm at heart but during school I feel super guilty if I read anything other than course material! I read a million little pieces for the first time and loved it! I know there was a lot of controversy surrounding the book but I loved the message non the less! Would love to give this series a try now that school has finished!
Robyn R says
I am totally a bookworm (and have passed it to my daughter). We read nonstop–cars and motion sickness are no problem…we just read. 🙂 I haven’t read this series, but really want to now! I would say that the Hunger Games (series) surprised me at how fast I was swallowed whole by the books. My oldest son was reading and I wanted to make sure they weren’t ‘too much’ because he was pretty young to be reading them. I was sucked in and would stay up every night reading his copy until 1-2 am. He got mad when I would read ahead of him so a couple times he hid the book on me. Stinker!
Erin says
I loved the Hunger Game series!! How fun you read it with your son!
Diane says
I am a total book worm and now I want to read both of these series! My guilty pleasure is also reality TV so I’m thinking it’s right up my alley! Thanks for sharing!
