Happy Monday! Its the last week of school before Spring Break begins and I am so excited. I spent this past weekend in State College with Josh. We kept it pretty low key and stayed inside since it was State Patty’s Weekend. If you never heard of it before its a student created party weekend before spring break where everyone dresses up in green and drinks themselves silly. The official day was Saturday although people started as early as Thursday. We decided to do an early dinner Friday so we were back at his place and away from the craziness before it got too wild.
I was craving something healthy and filling and Josh recommended Fiddlehead. Its a brand new downtown soup and salad cafe that is actually owned by the same people that own Irvings, an amazing bagel place I’ve blogged about a few times.
I was impressed by how many salad options and topping choices they had! I opted to create my own salad which included four toppings and a dressing of choice.
I got the spinach salad with grapes, cherry tomatoes, asiago cheese, and candied walnuts with a strawberry vinaigrette. It was delicious.
I also ordered a small roasted red pepper soup. It was homemade and so good!
Josh opted for a pear spinach salad and also got the red pepper soup. This kind of food was exactly what I was craving for dinner.
As we were paying we noticed there was a gelato case. We both looked at each other so tempted to get some and when our receipts each printed off a $1 off coupon for it we knew it was fate. Josh got the coconut gelato and I got the mixed berry sorbet. Both were incredible and they tasted so good blended together.
It was a cold night and we were bundled up for our outing. Meg asked to see me model my new coat so I had Josh take a picture of me when we got home. Please excuse the red eyes, I don’t know if its a blue eyes thing but my eyes are red in nearly every picture I take.
Once we got home Josh and I continued our Valentine’s Day celebration. I had ordered Josh’sĀ Valentine’s Day gift weeks ago but unfortunately overseas shipping delayed it getting here. Josh loves watches and has been wanting an antique watch for a while now. I was so excited when I spotted this vintage Tissot watch on eBay, it seemed perfect for him. I was so nervous ordering it since I hadn’t seen it in person and I was nervous it might not look as nice as it did in the pictures. Thankfully it was just as pretty in person and Josh loves it. I think it looks so great on him!
Josh also surprised me with another Valentine’s Day gift that was late in the mail. He found this penguin print on Etsy and had it framed for me. Isn’t it adorable? I was so surprised when I opened it, I love it so much! I think everyone that reads my blog by now knows I’m kind of obsessed with penguins and this has got to be one of the cutest penguin things I’ve ever seen. He’s so sweet to enable my love for them.
He was also so sweet to pick up a Chobani Blood Orange for me to try. I have been looking for these everywhere and haven’t had any luck finding them. His Weiss had them in stock and he grabbed one for me to have with breakfast the next morning. It was so incredibly good! Now I just need to find a store by me that stocks them!
This weekend also featured lots of pilates! I have a DVD that I love and Josh was game to try it out. Its a butt kicking workout and it was so fun to get to do it with Josh. I was so excited to get to try out my new Lululemon workout wear I’ve been finding super incredible deals on on Ebay. I got the Astro crops, the organic Wunder Unders, and the Ruffle Groove pants. They are all such high quality and so great to workout in.
On Saturday we made a trip to Wegmans to pick up six dollar meals for us to eat. The thing I love about their meals is that they’re actually three dollar meals for me since I get two meals out of one. Here’s my Saturday night dinner featuring an eggplant roulette, squash salad, and farro. So yummy.
I also found Alexia Mashed Potatoes in the grocery store and picked them up for us to try. Josh and I love Alexia sweet potato fries but were disapointed in these. Despite being seasoned they tasted pretty bland and despite us following the exact cooking time they tasted over cooked. Oh well, at least we tried them! š
For dinner Sunday night Josh and I decided to try out a new-to-us restaurant, The Legends Pub in the Penn Stater hotel. It had such a cute atmosphere and a really exciting, vegetarian friendly menu.
To start off with we split the baked brie with cranberries and walnuts. It was really really good. Brie is such a weakness of mine.
We were shocked at how cheap the prices of the meals were. While our brie was a little pricey the sandwiches were cheaper than Panera! I got the vegetable panini that was overflowing with fresh veggies and a Mediterranean salad. It was delicious.
Josh got the grilled cheese and beer battered french fries. I love how Josh and I like the same types of foods because it allows us to order different things and then split it. We split our plates in half and got to sample everything. It was all so good. We definitely plan on returning there, its such a hidden little treasure.
After dinner we headed home, shared some pumpkin beer and apple cider, watched Worst Cooks and the ending of the Academy Awards. I really have to see The Artist, it looks so good!
Today we woke up and had breakfast (I had my leftovers from The Legends Pub) and enjoyed coffee out of the Minnie and Mickey mugs I got for us in Orlando. Aren’t they adorable? I was just at Disney and I already can’t wait to go back. But before I start thinking about vacation, I have a test to study for and a paper to write. I better get to it!
