This has been a year of exciting changes. I’m graduating with my Bachelors this summer, Josh is graduating with his Doctorate, and then we’re getting married. Any of those three things would be a big event on their own but we’ve just added another exciting thing to our to-do list.
We’re moving to Omaha, Nebraska! This is going to be a huge change for us but one we’re so excited about. Josh was offered his dream job and I’m so proud of him. We can’t wait to see what Midwest living is like! His company is having us out next week to apartment hunt and get acquainted with the area. I’ve already handed out a few resumes so that I can hopefully find a job pretty quickly when we move out there. (We’re moving two weeks after the wedding!)
I feel like everything in my life is speeding up and happening all at once. While it still doesn’t all feel real the most overwhelming feeling I have is one of gratitude. I’m so happy, and so lucky, and so blessed. I get to move to a new city with the greatest guy in the whole world and start a life together. We get to explore a new area and make new friends and put down roots. I’ve always been a person to plan out my life but I never in my wildest dreams expected 22 could be this good.
I’m really going to miss PA. I was born here, and though I’ve lived all across the country in between now and then, this is the state that feels like home. More than anything I’m going to miss our family. But there’s already lots of plans for everyone to come visit and see our new apartment when we’re all settled in.
This is where you guys come in! Is anyone familiar with the Omaha area? Josh and I already have a pretty good list of apartment options to check out next week but we are always interested in hearing more. We’re primarily interested in the Dundee/ Old Market area. We’re also interested in restaurant recommendations. Omaha is supposed to have more restaurants per capita than any other city! And if you live in Omaha and like lattes and fitness classes and want to be my friend that would be pretty awesome too! 😀
Question of the Day: I’d love to hear what it’s like/ what to expect in Omaha!
congrats!! so much change, but all so great!
Thanks so much! We’re so excited!
I like Omaha a lot but I haven’t been there for years. It’s a very cool little city. I love the Old Market area. Good luck with your move and all the exciting changes coming your way.

What is Josh’s doctorate going to be in, if I may ask?

Congrats! I live in Nebraska however Im a good 5 hours from Omaha so I havent spent that much time there. Really, just drive through on my way back from roadtrips. But its not far from Lincoln, only about 45 minutes to an hour, and thats a fun little town. Lots of running and exercise happening over on that side of the state…..good luck with everything!!
Thanks so much Tara! Josh and I are so excited to explore and discover Nebraska!
Congrats! That is all super exciting! I’ve lived in the Midwest all my life and LOVE it. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I’m up in Chicago, so if you ever venture out this way, give me a shout! SPA love!
Hey Casey! Oh how awesome, I’ve heard great things about Chicago! I’ll definitely reach out if I’m ever in that neighborhood.
Congrats!! So exciting. I am a Midwestern girl at heart (born and raised in WI) and lived in NYC now… there’s nothing like the Midwest!!

Congrats on the big move! Omaha is such a fun town and I think you will really like the Dundee area (it is so beautiful!). You are right that Omaha has so many delicious restaurants and so many different options to choose from- Shuck’s is my new favorite! Good luck!!
I’ll definitely have to check out Shucks. Thanks for the recommendation!
Congrats on all the upcoming changes and new adventures 🙂
Thanks girly!
I have no insight on Omaha – but wanted to say I’m so excited for your upcoming move and congrats to your fiance on the new job! 🙂
Thank you so much Heather! That really means a lot!
This has already been such an amazing year for you, indeed, and with so many other great things coming. This just adds to it. So happy for you, Erin!
Thank you so much Tina! We’re so excited! It has been a whirlwind for sure!
Congrats! Omaha is a nice place. My parents lived in Papillion for a few years and I got married in Omaha. Not a bad place to go at all!
Enjoy!
Aw thanks girly! That’s good to hear! 🙂
Congrats! I don’t have any insight to Omaha but I think there is a blogger…she has a blonde ponytail and loves crossfit and GNC that might be able to help. 😉
Yes! haha We’ve been chatting! 😀
Wow, so many big life changes! Congratulations!!! 🙂
Thanks Kelly! I’m so excited!
NO WAY!! I just moved to the Omaha area at the end of December! Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions. I can definitely recommend some vegetarian restaurants, too! We will have to do lunch or dinner sometime! 🙂
Omg!! What a small world! haha I’ll definitely be emailing you tonight for recommendations! And yes, lunch or dinner would be awesome! Thanks so much for reaching out!
Congratulations Erin!! Such a big change! I moved from Phoenix to Kansas about 10 years ago for veterinary school and I absolutely adored the midwest. Everyone is so kind and it was a nice, slower change of pace from the city life I was used to. I visited Omaha a couple of times when I lived out there and it really seemed to have the best of both worlds – a small town feel with access to good shopping/restaurants etc. I really hope you love it!
Hey Kristi! Thanks so much for the insights! That makes Omaha sounds perfect for us. Josh and I love city comforts but we’re really not city people. This sounds like the best of both worlds!
i am so, so, so excited for you!! congrats on the move decision:) cant wait to read all about it!
Thanks so much Katy Beth!! Josh and I are so happy! I hope you’re doing well!
Ahhh!! Can’t wait to have you here! Congrats to your hubs! Omaha is a fabulous city–I’m biased–but have lived in other places so I appreciate it more than ever. The Old Market/Dundee area is ideal for a young, professional couple like you two! Summer is hopping too: Farmer’s markets, outdoor concerts, Omaha Zoo, sporting events galore. Hit me up if you need any help!
Thanks Jess! I really appreciate you reaching out, I just sent an email your way. Josh and I are so excited to discover Omaha. We’re especially excited about the food and the zoo and the college world series. Where I live right now is the home of the little league world series so it will be so cool to see a continuation of that!
Aw congrats to Josh and good luck with the move! I’ve never been to Omaha but I think any change is good, I always think it’s a good way to start anew, especailly since you guys WILL be starting new, as a new family! Best of luck to both of you!
Thanks so much Kammie! That’s exactly how we feel, we’re so excited it’s a big change we’ll be able to do together!
I can’t wait for you to MOVE THERE because I have never been and want to know what there is to do there! 🙂 It’s going to be quite the amazing adventure!!
Thanks so much Gigi! I’ll definitely be blogging about the adventure!
Congrats Erin (and Josh), I’ve never been to the Midwest but I can’t wait to live vicariously through you two.
