Pregnancy is such a transitional time. It’s amazing how the time it takes to grow a baby helps the parents-to-be get more prepared for what’s to come. While I’m not sure I’ll ever feel fully ready for becoming a mom in a few weeks, my mindset has really changed throughout the trimesters, and I feel like I have a much better handle on the job description than I did just a few months ago.
There is so much to prep and plan during those 9 months of pregnancy. Josh and I have both tried to make the most of it. If you’re expecting and looking for a gift for your spouse to help him prepare or just want to do something nice for a dad-to-be in your life, here are five gifts that were incredibly handy for Josh.
1: This book came highly recommended by one of Josh’s good guy friends (and fellow dad). Josh read it cover to cover. It lays out what to expect each trimester (including the fourth!), how to be a supportive spouse, and even gives conversation starters for the couple. It does all this in a very approachable and conversational way. Josh said he learned a lot and it helped him feel more involved in the process, which is a total win-win.
2. This one made me laugh, but when I asked Josh what has come in clutch for him these past 8+ months he said this pillow with zero hesitation. It’s cooling, it’s cheap, and it’s super comfy. Getting good sleep is so important during this busy time. Josh is pretty picky with pillows, so the fact he found one he loves makes me so happy.
3. While mom is busy growing a baby, resting, and nesting, pregnancy means a busy time for dad doing all the projects around the house to get ready for the baby. (At least that’s been the case for us!) Between painting the nursery, organizing the garage, cleaning out the basement, getting the cars detailed, etc., Josh has been doing a lot of running around these last few months. Josh absolutely loves these activewear tops. They’re perfect for doing chores, running errands, and actually working out. They pair great with jeans, shorts, and workout shorts, too.
4. Josh loves listening to podcasts and found some really good ones on parenting. He uses and loves these headphones while he’s working on a project or chilling around the house to help him multitask. He’s a big fan of the noise cancelling feature.
5. I actually gave Josh this journal as a Father’s Day present this year. It lets him document his life and share stories with baby girl for her to read one day when she’s older. I love that it’s a bit like a time capsule in that it lets her get a glimpse into his life right now, a time she’ll really never know or remember. Hopefully it will help her relate to us and see us as more than old, boring people when she’s a too cool teenager and 20-something. 😉
