This past weekend a certain special someone had a very special birthday.
Happy Birthday Josh! On Saturday Josh turned 28 and I was so excited to be able to celebrate his big day with him. His parents drove down for the weekend so it was a family celebration with all of us spending the weekend eating, enjoying State College’s fall weather, going antiquing, and soaking up some time together. For his birthday cake I used the same carrot cake recipe as last year since it was such a hit. I think it turned out pretty nicely and I love the tradition of homemade birthday cakes every year! 😀
For dinner we all went out to Marios, one of our favorites.
We started off with a delicious mushroom and cheese pizza to share.
As well as a yummy sweet potato bruschetta.
Josh enjoyed walnut gnocchi in a pumpkin cream sauce.
I devoured my pumpkin ravioli. I love the flavors of the season!
It was a delicious meal enjoyed by all where we got to toast to another year of health and happiness.
Our travels this weekend also took us to Cool Beans, one of the coffee shops Josh and I would frequent a lot when he was studying for comps. They make the best chai and pumpkin lattes.
Josh and I also visited the Allen Street Grille to celebrate Lily defending her dissertation.
Lily (in the middle wearing the blue shirt) is now a Doctor! Everyone is SO proud of her and it was so much fun getting together with everyone to celebrate her achievements. There was quite the turnout, we filled up half the place!
There were lots of other food things this weekend. They include me trying my first soup bowl and absolutely loving it. This spinach and artichoke soup from Fiddlehead was phenomenal.
And breakfast with Josh’s parents at the Waffle Shop was perfect. One pecan wheat germ pancake with two scrambled eggs is enough that I can eat it without feeling overstuffed but still have room left so I can pick at everyone elses delicious breakfast choices. 😀
Josh’s parents are super sweet and got me Angie’s dark chocolatier sea salt Holidrizzle Kettle Corn when we were shopping at Wegmans. Oh my goodness was this amazing popcorn. A perfect mix of sweet and salty, I inhaled it.
It was a perfect weekend with the best company. I was so happy to be able to celebrate Josh turning a year older with his parents and friends. Josh truly is the kindest, most giving person I have ever met. He will do things for others without ever thinking to do something for himself. It was great getting to shower him with love and show him how much he is appreciated by everyone around him. I hope 28 brings him all good things!
Question of the Day: How do you like to celebrate your birthday? Are you a go out to eat and live it up kind of person or a stay inside and treat it like a typical day? I’m all about full on birthday celebrations over here! 😀

Wow! That gnocchi looks and sounds amazing! And pumpkin ravioli? Mmm, nothing like the flavors of fall!
I usually prefer to go out to eat for my birthday, but for the last couple of years, my mom has been preparing my childhood favorites and well, I just can’t say no to mama’s homemade pot roast or chicken pot pie! 😉 As long as it’s spent with family and friends, I couldn’t be happier!

The food was absolutely delicious. I love Marios! Yes, birthdays are all about the company, what you do is way less important than that!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE bread bowls, so yummy. My birthday falls within a month period of my hubs and babe’s birthdays, our wedding anniversary and the 4th of July so we tend to just do a nice dinner.
Erin says
Oh wow you guys have all the birthdays and holidays right next to each other! Josh and our birthdays are a month and a half apart, then our anniversary is the week later (next Monday!) then it’s Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years and Valentines Day. I’m excited our wedding will be in July, I think it helps spread the celebrating all over the year! 😀
