Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend?
My weekend was spent with Josh and my dad who is visiting from Pennsylvania. I’ve only gotten to see him once a year in the two years since I’ve lived in Omaha so I tried to soak up every moment that I could. That meant not a lot of social media interaction this weekend, but a ton of fun and new memories. We were go-go-go all weekend and it has left me feeling like I need a weekend after my weekend! Haha
I’m trying to get to bed early tonight, so I’m going to let my pictures do most of the talking in this post. Don’t forget to link-up to your weekend snapshots at the bottom of this post!
After we picked my dad up from the airport we took him to Tom+Chee for dinner. He loved getting to make his own grilled cheese sandwich and thought it was delicious.
Saturday morning we walked downtown to get breakfast at The Diner. I love this building.
It was really hot on Saturday so we tried to stay indoors as much as possible. We spent the morning at the Joslyn Art Museum and then took my dad grocery shopping with us. Whole Foods was having a store-wide competition where shoppers got to be the judge. We went from department to department trying all the different foods and at the end got to vote for our favorite. There was a blueberry cobbler that was out of this world.
After grocery shopping we headed to Lauritzen Gardens to show my dad the huge train display that overlooks the highway welcoming people to Omaha.
I learned a lot walking around with my dad while he pointed out the parts and various features of the trains. I wish some of his handiness had passed on to me! I know nothing about that sort of stuff.
For dinner we took my dad to South Omaha for some delicious Mexican food. Check out that guacamole boat!
We all loved El Alamo. To date it’s the best Mexican food I’ve had in Omaha. Their sauces and seasonings are unreal.
After dinner we headed home and watched the first Despicable Me movie.
Sunday morning we woke up bright and early to head to Mahoney State Park. We had tickets to go horseback riding!
How cute are these ponies that give pony rides? Of course we all had to get pictures with them:
Horseback riding was so much fun! My horse’s name was Bubba and he was the best. He stayed on the path, didn’t try to eat anything, and wasn’t mean to the other horses! Sunday was a lot cooler than Saturday and it was so nice to take a leisurely stroll through the forest on horseback.
Mahoney State park is such a great park. There’s a waterpark, a theater, golf, cabins, horseback riding, educational classes, paddle boats, and an observation deck.
Some of the views from the open observation deck. We walked up the five stories to get to the top and were amazed to feel the structure swaying slightly in the wind. Apparently that’s necessary for the stability of tall open structures.
After a morning at the State Park we headed to Voodoo Taco on the way home for lunch.
Then we made our way over to the Durham Museum. I had never been there before and thought it was so cool. Josh and I definitely want to go back!
Before it was a museum it used to be the train station that brought commerce and tourists into Omaha. I love how they preserved a city treasure for future generations.
The exhibits were crazy. Check out this bison!
I loved how interactive everything was. We could walk through trains, touch exhibits, and even climb on some for photos!
We ended our museum trip with a malted milkshake (Josh’s favorite) at the soda fountain that has been there since the train station first opened.
We picked up La Casa pizza on the way home to eat while watching the second Minion movie.
And gave this guy lots of love since we had been out and about all weekend. It was such a great weekend that went by way, way too fast!
Questions of the Day: What was the highlight of your weekend? Do you enjoy horseback riding? Do you get to see your parents often? Do you like visiting museums?
Looks like such a fun weekend! I can’t believe how huge that cat is! And that first picture of food – can I say delicious? What were the horses for? Play riding?

Yes! We had the best time showing my dad around Omaha! I just wish him and my stepmom would move here!
I have not been horseback riding in forever!! Seriously, I think the last time I went I was 5 years old. That looks so fun!
It was so much fun! I love horseback riding!!
OMG…your pictures made me hungry! Voodoo Taco looks amazing! I have only been horseback riding one time and absolutely loved it: your pictures reminded me that I need to do it again!
You definitely should! Horseback riding is a lot of fun!
glad you had a nice weekend with your dad! making your own grilled cheese? how fun!
The grilled cheese was so delicious! And it was such a great weekend with my dad!
Wow, you did have a busy weekend. You’re also so good at remembering to take pictures at each stop along the way – I’m terrible at that part. I always forget. Hope you can rest up today!
I’m resting tonight before going to see Trainwreck. I need a nap!
That’s a lot of questions for the day, hehe. Your weekend with your Dad and husband looked awesome! I love seeing family. I get to see my parents a few times a week, which is great! Loved that they moved closer to us…mostly because of the Grandkids, but hey I’ll take it! We went horseback riding on our honeymoon and I loved it, but not enough to go seek it out while not on vacation, lol. I do like museums, but I usually go through them fairly quickly. I don’t stop and stare at each thing for minutes on end. Looks like you had a great weekend, with equally great food!
Thanks Sarah! It was a great weekend! I’m jealous you live so close to your parents!
What a fun weekend! The Durham Museum looks awesome!!
It was a great weekend! And the Durham is so cool!
Your weekend looks so fun. My parents came to visit this weekend, too. I get to see my family a lot, but they rarely come to me which made this weekend really special to me.
It sounds like you had a really special weekend! I’m glad you got to spend it with your family!
What a fun weekend! I’m glad you got to catch up with your dad. 🙂
Me too! He went home today and I’m so sad. 🙁
I love that the place is actually called “The Diner” – and the look of their food! Plus that state park is gorgeous. Most of all, you got to share it with your dad, so it sounds like an awesome weekend 🙂
It was the best weekend! I wish it didn’t have to end!
You guys had such a packed weekend! I love it!

Good for you for putting down social media for a while to enjoy time with the family. Spending time with those you love is so much more important. These food pictures look so good! It doesn’t help that I’m so hungry right now haha. Hope you had fun!
