While all the pies were delicious, the pumpkin pie was in a league of its own for me. Growing up, my family ordered pumpkin pies from the Pennsylvania Amish for Thanksgiving every year. It's so hard to describe, but they always tasted different than the other pumpkin pies I ate from the store, bake sales, and holiday parties. While I love pumpkin anything, these were so much better. Yoder's pumpkin pie tasted like the pumpkin pie of my childhood. I was so touched when they offered to send me a pie and share the recipe with me. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!
Yoder's Pumpkin Pie Recipe
Ingredients
½ cup 2 tablespoons sugar
½ cup 2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 ½ tablespoons flour
¼ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
¼ teaspoon salt
5 large eggs
½ cup 2 tablespoons pure pumpkin
2 cups half and half
1 9-10” uncooked pie crust
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, pumpkin pie spice, and salt. Mix in 5 large eggs for one minute, scraping down the sides of the bowl when done. Add pure pumpkin, mixing well. Pour mixture into pie crust and bake for 50-60 minutes or until the mixture no longer jiggles in the center. Let cool before serving. If desired top with whipped cream although this pie is so good it doesn't even need it!
If you're going to make a pumpkin pie this year please make this one. I promise you won't be disappointed. It is seriously that good.
And if you're one of the lucky ones who finds yourself in Sarasota, stop by Yoder's and try their pies for yourself! They're made right there in their kitchen with love.
