Magimix Food Processor Review (and giveaway!)

Magimix Food Processor Review (and giveaway!)
You guys may have noticed that I've been making a lot of dips and juices lately. I owe that to this bad boy showing up at my door: A little over a month ago Magixmix by Robot-Coupe reached out to me to see if I would be interested in reviewing their food processor and juicer attachment. Robot-Coupe is a French company that has been making high-quality, professional kitchen equipment since the 1960's. They are a leader in the professional  industry, and a leader in the domestic kitchen equipment industry ever since they created their high-end Magimix by Robot-Coupe line in the 1970's. Their Magimix line is designed for home cooks, and is to food processors what Vitamix is to blenders and KitchenAid is to mixers. They have been incredibly successful with their domestic line in Europe (Julia Child was a huge fan) and are looking to bring those same high-performing, best-selling products to the US and Canada. They are now available at Williams Sonoma, Chefs Catalog, and Zola. I'm sure this is not a shock to you guys, but Josh and I are really into kitchen appliances. He's a fabulous cook and I love to eat good food. Everything on our wedding registry was somehow related to the kitchen. Now that we're in Omaha, we have a great apartment kitchen that I love getting to use. In our first year (almost) of marriage, we have really enjoyed creating healthy, delicious meals together.

I was sent the 14 cup Food Processor. Here are some stats on it:

  • Made in France.
  • The base is stainless steel.
  • The size is 10 1/4" x 8 1/4" x 16 3/4" high.
  • It comes with 6 cup, 12 cup, and 14 cup bowls. This is nice because it lets you prepare various foods for a meal without stopping to wash a bowl each time.
  • The small bowl is perfect for mincing herbs, chopping nuts or blending a sauce.
  • The medium bowl is ideal for slicing, grating and making julienne cuts.
  • The large bowl handles prep jobs like mixing batters, kneading dough and slicing or chopping large batches of vegetables.
  • It has a 950 W motor. This thing is powerful!
  • The motor automatically adjusts power and speed to suit job at hand.
  • Sabatier stainless-steel blades and stainless-steel discs are strong enough for a variety of tasks, including crushing ice.
  • The removable parts are dishwasher safe.
It also comes with:
  • Dough blade.
  • 2 grating discs; 2mm and 4 mm.
  • 2 slicing discs; 2 mm and 4 mm.
  • Blender mix attachment.
  • Egg whisk.
  • Spatula.
  • Recipe book and DVD.
  • Storage box.
I love that this food processor is so versatile. Stocking a kitchen can be expensive, so it's important to invest in products that are going to last and that do the most for you. I plan on having my kitchen appliances for decades to come, and I'm always looking for the ones that will give me the most bang for my buck. The Magimix Food Processor definitely does that. I also love that all the tools and accessories are able to be easily and neatly stored. Counter space is at a premium for us, so being able to tuck some things under the counter but still have them easily accessible means a lot.

I also received the Juice Extractor and Smoothie Attachment. Here are some stats on it:

  • Made in France.
  • A Williams Sonoma exclusive.
  • Includes: extractor funnel, and paddle.
  • Efficiently processes juice for jams, jellies, sorbets and soups.
  • Top-rack dishwasher safe.
I love that the juice attachment is such an easy add-on to the food processor. I love juices, but don't have the counter space to have a separate juicer. For us, we mince, slice, blend, and mix multiple times a week, while we juice maybe once a week. We prioritized the food processor over the juicer as it fit our needs better. This is similar to how we prioritized a mixer over a pasta maker. We have fun making fresh noodles together but do that once in a blue moon. We use a mixer every time we bake. For us, it made sense to get a fabulous mixer, and then get the pasta attachment. I'm sure there are people out there with a separate kitchen product for every possible cooking process, but the thought of organizing and storing all those things makes my head hurt.

From top left going clockwise: Mexican Style Jugo Juice, Pineapple Cucumber Delight, Carrot Apple Ginger Juice, and Fresh Guacamole

We have been putting the Magimix food processor and juice extractor attachment through their paces this past month. It has passed with flying colors and earned its prized spot on our counter top, right next to our toaster, Keurig, Vitamix, and KitchenAid.

The pros:

  • It's powerful! Holy crap this thing processes and juices like it's on steroids. The first time Josh used it to chop up some veggies, he gasped at how fast it worked. Our previous food processor was not a low-quality product at all, but the Magimix annihilated it. I do not believe there is a better food processor out there on the market.
  • It's quiet. Machines that cut up and juice things are always going to make noise, but this one is so much quieter than other products I've used. My parents' food processor used to make their puppies run and hide it was so loud. That would not happen with the Magimix.
  • It's solid. There is nothing I hate more than spending a lot of money on something and getting a cheap product in return. The quality of the materials used in the product should match the price and this one does. It's not a cheap food processor, but you can not find a more well-made one.
  • It's super high volume. I love that it can hold 14 cups. That is essential to making food preparation as painless as possible. I've been able to chop up all my veggies and make big batches of juice in one go with no worries.
  • It's like having a real juicer! I was dubious about how well the juicer would work since it's an attachment on a machine and not its own machine. I was amazed at how the juice came out exactly like juices I've made with friends using their high-end, full-size juicers. The juice is nice and smooth without any weird clumps or lumps, it's made fast, and it's made quietly. The juice attachment was quieter than any other juicer I've used as well.

The cons:

  • The cost. I would never call a $400 food processor cheap or affordable. I would call it a good value and smart investment if you're looking to buy a multi-purpose appliance that you don't have to worry about fixing or replacing. This really depends on your personal mindset and budget. Josh and I care about, enjoy, and prioritize cooking. We spend money on products from brands like All Clad and Le Creuset. This product is the best of the best, but I would never tell someone that is trying to save money on kitchen appliances that a $100 food processor wouldn't meet their needs.
  • Cleaning the juicer attachment is a pain in the butt. There's a paddle to scrape off the pulp that works as well as it can, but removing wet pulp from a strainer is never a fun process. This is true of all juicers, but I would love for Magimix to come up with a way to make this process as easy as rinse and be done. The juice attachment is dishwasher friendly which is awesome, but I'm weird and don't like putting my nice kitchen products in the dishwasher. I know it's irrational, but I'm terrified something bad will happen.

Would I spend my own money on this? Absolutely.

I was incredibly impressed by the products and would recommend them to my family and friends without hesitation. I'm now a big fan of the Magimix brand and am eying their side-opening, see-through toaster. Our current toaster is dying a slow, sad death and we desperately need to replace it. It's one of the only things we didn't register for. Josh has had our current one for years and is quite attached. I guess everything happens for a reason, because if we got a new toaster a year ago we wouldn't be in the market for one now and have such a cool option.
