Outlander is part drama, part historical piece, part action, part romance, and a million parts amazing. It's a 60 minute show on Starz that I first heard about when a TV review site listed it as the number one show to watch this year.
The series is based off the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon. (Which I am now reading and loving!) It follows the story of Claire, an English woman from the 1940's who unexpectedly finds herself transported to 18th century Scotland while on her honeymoon with her husband in the Highlands.
I don't have Starz, but am able to easily stream high-def versions of the episodes for free online. (*wink wink*)
I love period pieces, and romance, and stunning scenery backdrops. This show has all of that in spades. (And I now need to take a vacation to Scotland!)
Because this show is on Starz it also has no filter and a ton of nudity and violence. If that sort of thing offends you you will probably not enjoy this show. Just a heads up. Another heads up that the first episode started off a little slow for me but it very quickly gained momentum and speed. Give yourself a chance to fall in love with this show and I think you'll be surprised with just how much you love it. The characters are so fleshed out and the acting is truly superb. Also, hello hot guys with Scottish accents! I'm just saying...
Here's a video that explains a little bit more about the premise of the series. I went into the first episode completely blind to the storyline and am so glad I did. It made watching the plot unfold extra special.
With most shows coming to an end for the season, summer is a great time to check out shows you've been hearing buzz about but haven't yet gotten a chance to watch. If you're in the market for a new show I highly recommend checking out Outlander. Just be warned, it's addicting and you might find yourself in some late night binge-watching sessions like I did. ;)
